Worship in the Park

Projects Continue

Adobe Deli

This morning Mary invited us to join her for worship at Robert and Adriene’s rig.  We were reluctant to go in light of how many times in the past we have been burned going to such services.  Mary, however, was persistent.  How could we say no, so we went.  This is Robert and Adriene.

They have a ministry called Altar to Altar.  This ministry provides a Christian church experience for the mobile community.  It is in essence a church without walls and pews, a ministry that shares the love of God through the Good News of His son Jesus Christ from coast to coast.  We are definitely glad Mary kept at us because this was a beautiful worship experience.  One of the best we have experienced in a long time.  There were about 12 of us who gathered together.  Adriene delivered the morning message on Developing a Friendship With God.  It was a thoughtful message that definitely got the week off to a fantastic start.

Once worship was over it was time to go to Wally World for a few odds and ends that we needed.  We had to pick up a few items from the grocery section, some ant traps, and a few more items for my reconstruction of the front TV access panel.

Once home I gave the front TV access panel the first coat of stain.  I was planning on giving it a second coat tomorrow but I believe I will leave it as light as it is.  Tomorrow I’l give it a coat of polyurethane and then the following day it will go back up.  This time the right way.

Today I also got to clean and wax the shower.  It’s been some time since I’ve done it and it was definitely long overdue.  Mark another project completed.

Time now to get cleaned up since we were again going out with the group.  It’s sort of funny when we first arrived here we thought there would be nothing do to.  A few sightseeing trips, some books to read and that would be it.  That is until we discovered that Mary was in charge of activities.  We’ve been on the go ever since and just loving it.

Tonight we were going as a group to Adobe Deli.  Sorry, not all the pictures turned out since I had to use my phone.  Yes, I took my camera but forget to put a data card in it.  Only me!

Gathering at the park.  These are just three of the twelve cars that went.

I’m sure glad I decided to follow some one since I never would have found this place on my own.  Again, never judge a book by it’s cover.  This place was once a school, then a post office, then a deli, and now a restaurant.

Here we are heading toward the front door.

At the front door.

The main hall which used to be the gymnasium of the school.

A few pictures that sort of came out from this most unusual place.  This is their coffee roaster.  They grind and roast all of their own coffee.

This is one rather large wood burning stove.

The sign at the front door.  One of them!

Unfortunately, none of the other pictures are worth sharing.  Blurry, out of focus, etc., etc.  Sorry.  Take it from me, though, this is one neat place.  For food.  The funky atmosphere.  And the history that is in every room, and nook and corner.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It started out great and also ended great.  We’re busy now and loving it but in just two weeks once the convergence is over the park will be quiet again and like a ghost town.  A week after that we should also be on the road again.  For now, we’re having the time of our lives.

Thanks again for joining us today.  We’re always glad to have you along and we look forward to your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.

Breakfast Burrito at the Park

Deconstruction and Reconstruction

Afternoon Visitor

DVD Movie Night at the Park

I believe Fall has arrived a day or two early.  The temperature sank to the early 60’s last night and today it never went above 75 degrees.  It was nice not having to run the AC all day.  We opened the windows and just let the wind blow through which was really nice.

This morning it was Burrito Breakfast at the Park.  A small but hungry group eagerly gathered for breakfast at around 9 am at the activity center.

IMG_7005 (1)

This is Mary, our friend and the activity director here, making burrito’s however you liked.

IMG_7006 (1)

For just $5 you got a hash brown and a burrito made to your liking.  Not how can you go wrong with a deal like that.  Once again we both qualified for the clean plate club.

IMG_7008

Here’s a few pictures from the inside of our activity hall.  As with most Escapees Parks there is always a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle out on a table for anyone to work on.

IMG_7004

In the hall itself there are a number of different kinds of plants and trees growing.

IMG_7007

Just outside the door I found this.  I have no idea what it was or is.

IMG_7009

Once back at Graybeard it was time for a little deconstruction and reconstruction.  In the front of our rig immediately behind our TV there is an access panel.  It allows me to get to the back of the TV to access wires, etc.

IMG_7044 (1)

Since day one it’s never been properly installed.  I trusted our RV tech in NJ to do what was right in installing the TV and I believe I put just a bit too much trust in him on this one.  The TV install is solid, thankfully.   Not what I wanted but it works and serves the purpose.  Come to the access panel and it seems he just threw some screws at it and hoped it would stay put.  Which it didn’t.  Time to do it right.  First, I’m going to stain it and then, next,  anchor it properly so that it will never come down again – unless I want it to.

Next issue, after the TV was installed we always had a loud noise from the cabinets on either  side of the TV whenever we hit a bump in the road.  Time to finally figure it out.  What I found was a bit alarming.  It seems to create the access to the TV the tech cut a hole in the headliner which wasn’t a problem; but, he also severed the bottom support bar that tied the cabinets together as a unit and anchored them to the vertical supports.  And left it that way!  Thus, whenever we hit a bump the bottom of the cabinets literally jumped up and down.  Ouch!  Thankfully, all it took to correct the issue was a simple L bracket to tie things back together.  It connects the bottom of the cabinet on each side with the vertical support that is still there.  One more noise eliminated.

IMG_7043 (1)

Needing brackets, screws, etc meant a trip to the hardware store, the one and only in town.  Forget Lowes or Home Depot both are over an hour away.  This is where we ended up.

IMG_7013

They had most but not all of the items I wanted so I had to make some substitutions.

Out and about with Barbara driving I’m free to take pictures.  These are some I took on the way back from the hardware store.  This is the Deming Water Tower.

IMG_7018

The Art Center, yup no large box chain hardware store but an Art Center.  There was also a mural on the side of the building and just before it an interesting, decorated large water pitcher.

Turning back into the park, coming down our road toward home.

IMG_7033

After I got out of the car and before I got inside I noticed we had a visitor.

We finished the day where we began, at the activity center.  A group of us gather to watch How To Train Your Dragon, Part Two.  This was a film much more to our liking.  This is a computer generated action fantasy film.   It is the second in a series of films.  Doing some digging I discovered that in this film five years have passed since Hiccup and Toothless united the dragons and Vikings of Berk. Now, they spend their time charting the island’s unmapped territories. During one of their adventures, the pair discover a secret cave that houses hundreds of wild dragons — and a mysterious dragon rider who turns out to be Hiccup’s long-lost mother, Valka.   Hiccup and Toothless then find themselves at the center of a battle to protect Berk from a power-hungry warrior named Drago.  In the end Drago is vanquished and the villagers and dragons continue to live in harmony.,

I tried taking some picture of the actual movie and I think this is one of the best.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  Once again it was another wonderful day.  I finally solved a long nagging issue with the TV access panel.  Did some more reading. We got to spend some time with our friends over our morning cup of coffee.  Ended the day with some laughs.  Life is definitely good.  Thank you Lord for this fantastic life you have given us and that we live together.

Glad you could make it today.  We always enjoy your company and your comments.  We’ll catch you tomorrow.

Got a Good Book

Moving Out Early

Park Movie Night:  Guardians of the Galaxy

Not much happening today.  Just another quiet day in paradise.  Clear blue skies, no rain, but a constant persistent and strong wind.  The wind seems to be the norm in this part of the country.

I finally found a good book to get involved in.  It’s by one of my favorite authors by the name of Clive Cussler.  The problem now is I can’t put it down!  It has 402 pages, I started it yesterday, and I’m already half through it.  Thankfully,  I have two more books by the same author so I’m good for awhile.

It looks like we’ll be moving out early.  NOMADS has a new project starting on October 14th so that’s our new moving day.  We’re going to Tucson for a 3 week project working on two apartments.  We’ll be painting, doing some flooring and who knows what else.  We’ll have a full hook up site at no charge in return for our labor.

Tonight was movie night at the park.  We didn’t know what they were showing since no one as of yesterday could make a decision.  This is what they settled on

Maybe it’s us, but neither of us saw much in the film.  I guess we’re just not with the times nor up to date on what’s in, and what’s out.  It was OK, but I’m not anxious to see the rest in the series.  Ah well at least it was a night out for both of us.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  Short, sweet, again with a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  Tomorrow, well who knows what is going to happen.  Stay tuned.

Thanks again for checking in with us.  We always appreciate your company and your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.

Harvey Got Us Again

Sunrise Kitchen

Sights Around Town

We Found Our Train

Social Hour – Boondocking and Solar Seminar

The noise started in Graybeard back in Roswell and over the miles it got louder and louder.  When we stopped in Alamorgodo I crawled under, grabbed, shook, and checked everything I could see.  I couldn’t find a thing wrong.  I had no idea what was making the noise.  I was fairly confident, thought, that we would make it to Deming.  Once there I would find a recommended RV mechanic and let him have a go at it.

Today was the day to get Graybeard checked out.  Which meant, of course, we had to pack up and break down and leave our site temporarily.  The nice thing was nothing outside had to be put away.  I just disconnected and and pushed everything off to the side.  Our appointment was at 9 am so off we went to E and M Auto.

IMG_6973

I really had to remind myself not to judge them by first impressions.  If I had I would have kept right on going.  I also needed to remind myself that one of the guys in the park had taken his 2000 Newell here for service.  I parked, went inside and was introduced to Joseph who was going to be our mechanic.  Ok I said let’s go for a ride so you can here what we’ve been hearing.  Want to guess what happened?  After a 10 mile ride on all kinds of roads not one noise, not a squeak, not a rattle, not a thing.

You want to know what I believe?  I believe Harvey our ghost got us again!

There was only thing left to do to salvage the morning – go for breakfast at a recommended local restaurant.  I drove Graybeard back to the park, got it backed in, electric hooked up, and the refrigerator on, while leaving the rest until after breakfast.  With Greybeard back home off we went to

Here’s our gal of the day with the menu, tain’t she cute!

While waiting for our food to come I wandered around taking pictures.  Enjoy!

Our breakfast.  Barbara had scrambled eggs with jalapeno peppers and onions with hash browns on the side.  I had a green pepper chill omelette with hash browns and bacon on the side.   Two cups of coffee rounded our breakfast out.  You better believe we both qualified for the clean plate club.

IMG_6962

Breakfast finished time to go home and finish setting back up.  On the way I took a few pictures.  This is a typical home in this part of the country.

IMG_6942

A mural on one wall of a downtown business.

IMG_6967

The mountains that surround us.

IMG_6986

Back home it was nap time.  Barbara had a rough night and we were both up at 4:30 am.  The difference, though, was she was able to get back to sleep but I had no luck in that department.  Naps are the absolutely best invention in modern time.

Once awake I heard it again.  Our train!  It seems everywhere we go we find a train somewhere in the vicinity of where we call home.  Look close and you’ll see it through the trees and across the highway.  Those brown shapes moving through the trees are Army vehicles on different rail cars.  No horn since there are no crossings but you sure can here it rumble on down the line.

IMG_7001

Up and awake it was now time for Social Hour.  Here’s the assembled group.  Look off to the right and you’ll see Barbara in the white shirt with the orange logo.

IMG_6989

We also had a presentation about Boondocking.

IMG_6990 (1)

Then another seminar on the fundamentals of Solar.

IMG_6992

Most of the material covered in each seminar I either knew already or had documents about.  However, the value of these gatherings is that if you have questions about material that was not covered there is always someone there who can answer them for you.  The net of it is, I found answers to several questions that I had.  Which made for a really worthwhile late afternoon.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We definitely found ways to keep ourselves busy today.  Oh, and in the meantime I had to have a talking with Gertrude.  Lately she insists on trying to find a signal by looking straight in our bedroom window.  I’m beginning to believe she is in cohoots with Harvey!  Tomorrow morning we’ll know if my little talk straightened her out.

Thanks for coming along again today.  We always enjoy your company and your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.
