August 14th,Tuesday – Hallmark Day; Finish up Wishy Washy; Packing Up

To begin with, thanks to all who expressed concern as to whether we were treading water or not.  We’re fine right now.  We’re up on a hillside, no streams around us and the lake is a good distance away.  Though the rain has been heavy at times, we’re still water tight and in good shape.

OK, why mess up the kitchen when we’re going out anyway.  So being the great guy I am, I offered to take my sweetheart out to breakfast.  So, McDonalds it was.  After all they do have some great items on the breakfast menu.  Me?  I can’t pass up the steak, egg and cheese bagel with a hash brown on the side.  Throw in a specialty coffee and I’m one happy camper.

Breakfast over we headed back to my sister’s house to finish up our laundry and take our showers.  Thank you again sis for opening up your house to us, it made life so much easier.

Barbara even got a bonus today – she was able to find and watch a couple of shows on

The Hallmark Channel.  I have to admit, as funny as it sounds, I also miss our TV.  When you can’t even get the local news, and you can’t – oh perish the thought – get Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, you are hurting.  Thus we’ve made the decision that when we land back in Florida we’re going to have a Satellite system installed.  Right now we are leaning toward Dish with its pay as you go programming.  If any one has any words of wisdom to offer regarding satellite, please let us know.

I continue to investigate possible places to go and stay in 2019.  This, of course, will be an ongoing process for the next several months.  As of now the tentative plan is to stay in Florida for the month of April.  We’ll visit the Kennedy Space Center and St. Augustine that

month.  After that, I believe, we’re going to make our way somehow over to the Natchez Trace and up to Nashville and the Grand Old Opry.   Then, well just don’t know yet.  Of course, all of this is pending review by our in house navigator and sight seeing coordinator.

That was our day.  Nice and relaxing once again.  Thanks for joining us on the road of retirement.  It’s time to begin packing for our journey tomorrow.  We’re moving south to another Harvest Host location, the AACA Museum in Hershey PA.  We’ll tour the museum and spend the night in their parking lot before moving further south.

So, time to go and get busy.  Before I go, though, as always a closing though for each of us to ponder:

As always,  if you are coming to the end of your day with concerns and worries, let me suggest that you turn them over to God.  After all, He is going to be up all night so why not let him handle them for you.

Time now for our evening prayers and eventually some shut-eye.  Till tomorrow.

August 13th, Monday – And the Rains Came Down; Wishy Washy Day

And the rains came down – oh yes, they did!  Throughout the night, all morning long, finally letting up some time around mid afternoon.  A perfect day for reading a book and taking a nap.

Breakfast was super.  Two eggs over easy on toast, fried spam, a glass of juice and a couple of cups of coffee.  Dig this, I even made the coffee and actually got it right.  Usually Barbara will prepare the coffee pot the night before and all I have to do is push the

button to turn it on in the morning.  But this morning I got to not only set it up but also to push the button to start it brewing.  How about that I really am a bit more than just a pretty face that can push a button!

So today we needed to get caught up on the laundry, at least part one.  So it was time to

head over to my sister’s house.  Though she is away she said we could do our laundry there.  It sure beats going to the laundromat and feeding quarters into the machines.  Barbara did a couple of loads today and she will finish the up the last two loads tomorrow.  Thanks sis!

What else?  Well, we got our order in for the new blinds.  We’re getting 1 inch wood blinds in oyster white.  They will be delivered to us when we get to Raccoon Valley

RV park in Tennessee.  It’s hard to believe that we’re really going back south for the winter and the anniversary of our first full year of full timing is just around the corner.  Seems like only yesterday we started this nomadic lifestyle.  So far so good.

Of course, we also read our books and took a nap or two along the way.  It’s great being able to just nod off when you feel like it.  Or read a book.  Or do whatever, whenever.  I do know, though, I better get in gear and get next year planned.  If not we may not be able to find sites in various areas that we want to stay.

That was our day.   We’re just sort of kicking back and relaxing right now.  We know that things are going to start picking up in a few days.  To begin with we’ll be on the move south again.  We’re going to a museum or two, a battlefield, maybe we’ll get to a stock car race, visits with our kids, visits with friends, and who knows what else.  But for now, time to just sit back and breath.

Thanks for joining us on the road of retirement.  Hope your day was a great one.  That you’re in a place that you want to be, enjoying the good life, relaxing, maybe sipping a glass of wine.  So time to wrap this blog up with a thought for each of us to think upon:

August 12th, Sunday – Time for Church; Harlan Family Restaurant for Breakfast; God’s Beautiful People

It’s been, oh so long since we’ve had an opportunity to attend church on a Sunday morning.  So, when my sister Cindy invited us to attend her church with her, and her husband Charlie, we didn’t hesitate we immediately said yes.

Up and at it for us.  No breakfast this morning at the house since we would be going out after church for that.  So we broke out our Sunday best, meaning for me a real polo shirt and not just a tee shirt.  Barbara wore her Sunday best plus a special pair of  earrings.  With our finest on we headed to my sister’s house where we would leave together for church.

This was our destination.  The First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro.  Since the year 1843 Presbyterian families in Wellsboro have worshipped together. The church was first convened by Mrs. Curtis (Jane) Parkhurst of Lawrenceville. She was temporarily

living in Wellsborough during her husband’s term as sheriff. Responding to her invitation to form a Presbyterian church, twenty-five citizens convened in the courthouse for Presbyterian worship services.  On February 11th 1843 the Presbytery of Chemung of New York organized the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsborough.  For ten years the church continued to meet in the Tioga County Court House.

By 1879 the active membership of First Presbyterian was 280. In that year the Rev. Augustus C. Shaw became the church’s pastor.  Rev. Shaw was appreciated for his organizational skills, scholarship and deliberateness.  Under Dr. Shaw’s pastorate the congregation built the present impressive stone edifice, which was dedicated February 12, 1895.

The work of the church continues today  with their stated mission being  to embody and demonstrate the word of God through our heads, hearts, and hands in the communities of Tioga County and beyond.

After worship, my sister recommended a local restaurant that she had gone to before for breakfast.  It was right around the corner from the church so in no time we were there.

Breakfast was absolutely delicious!  They had an item called The Big One which was an omelet consisting of five eggs, home fries, ham, cheese and so much more.  Of course, I had to try it!  It was the best of the best.  Barbara went with scrambled eggs, sausage, and Rye toast on the side.  Both breakfast orders were tummy filling and so very satisfying.

Now for two of God’s really beautiful people, my sister Cindy and her husband Charlie.

cindy and charlie

They are two of the most beautiful, generous, and caring people in all the world.  They are the best of the best.  This past week spent with them has been absolutely wonderful.  We are now going our separate ways again, they to their Lake House and we will be moving on this Wednesday.  But we will be back together again at my mom’s house for Christmas.

That was our day.  A great time spent in God’s house lifting up our voices in praise.  A delightful breakfast at a wonderful local restaurant.  And, of course, a few more precious hours of time spent together with Cindy and Charlie.  What more could one ask for then that.  Thanks for joining us on our journey.  We hope you had a wonderful day as well.  Before saying goodnight, of course, something in closing that I truly hope applies to each of us and our families:

August 11th, Saturday – A Breakfast Surprise; More Odds and Ends

OK, so this morning was not cool, nor cold, it was pleasant.  Yes, pleasant and comfortable and wet and rainy.  Good sleeping weather for one and all.  Even Marti was in no hurry to get out of bed.  We’ve been taking him to my sister’s and they have a fenced in yard where he can run, and run he has for the past several days.  Little Man, as my sister calls him, is definitely not used to all the exercise.

Breakfast was absolutely delicious.  Barbara found a new way to make pancakes and

they come out so light and fluffy they almost float off the plate (No, I didn’t eat all of these).  They are scrumptious.  With a glass of juice, some sausage and a couple of cups of coffee what more could one ask for.

As for the rest of the day, no sense boring everyone.  Suffice to say it was a day doing nothing significant.  Of course, when it rains I always check for leaks.  We’re water tight as always.  Since it was raining, and they don’t allow you to wash your rig here at the

park, you guessed it, I decided to use the water God was providing.  I guess, though, God wasn’t in a rig washing mood because I got only about half way done and the rain stopped.  Stopped for good.  Not a drop more the rest of the day.  Oh well, next rain storm I’ll finish up.

What to do next?  Read a book, still working on the mystery novel I started.  Surf the web for this and that.  I believe I found a company that will remove and replace the ugly

looking decals that are now on the side of Graybeard.  They have faded and they are all beginning to peel off and look like the pits.  I also checked on some more campgrounds for next year, more possible sites to see, and routes to take.  It’s going to take quite a bit more time to pull it all together.  Time, however, is something I have in abundance.

Supper time and back to my sister, Cindy’s, house for supper.  Oh boy, pork in sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and for dessert lemon meringue pie.  When the week is over a diet will definitely be called for.  But for now I’m willing to make the supreme sacrifice and cheerfully eat everything that is put in front of me!  I know, what a guy.

That believe it or not was our day.  As I said an easy one at that but for some reason I’m really dragging tonight.  Can’t put my finger on why but I’m just dog tied.  This too, I’m sure, will pass.

Well, night is again here so I’m going to wrap this up.  Thanks for joining us for the day.  We’ll see you again tomorrow.  In closing, here is something for all of us to ponder:
