Temperature 81 Degrees

Now This Is More Like It

Continuing to Pack Up

Ah, now this is the weather we come to Florida for. Goodbye Tiny Tim, back to the closet you go. We awoke to much warmer temperatures, a beautiful blue sky, and light to moderate winds. By early afternoon the temperature was in the 80’s. Oh so nice and much more in line with Florida expectations.

Ms. Barbara had an early morning eye doctor appointment but it was only 15 minutes away here in Bushnell. What was nice is that I could drop her off and then go back in two hours to pick her up. That gave me time to make some breakfast and do some odds and ends around Elvira.

Today I continued putting things in order so that we can get back on the road. You think I’m getting excited! You better believe it.

Tire covers are off and tire pressure has been checked

All fluids have been checked and a visual inspection made to verify that there are no leaks. I also made a visual inspection underneath and I’m glad I did because that is where I found my lost garbage can lid.

I made a visual inspection of the tow bar to verify that there are no cracks and that the safety cables are in good order. I also made sure that the bars move freely side to side and in and out.

I visually inspected the base plate on the car and made sure the light receptacle is tight – it has a habit of working loose. Unfortunately, I can’t get the car behind Elvira until we’re ready to leave so I’m hoping the lights are still A-OK.

Since we’ve been sitting for so long I’m being extra careful and making sure I dot all my i’s and cross all my t’s.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. It was a beautiful day and we’re both definitely singing along with Willie Nelson Just Can’t Wait To Get On The Road Again. We’re looking forward to another super day tomorrow, we’re hoping we can get in some last minute sightseeing. Time will tell.

Thanks for taking the time to read our blog.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

More of the Same

Getting Caught Up

They say that Spring is here. Well, you can’t prove it by us. One more day of unseasonable temperatures, overcast skies, and a strong, cold wind from the North. The forecast for the days ahead is at least encouraging. Soon, real soon those in the know say the skies will clear, the sun will shine, and the temperatures will go back up – and stay up – where they belong for central Florida. Bring it on!

So, what have we been up to. Let’s begin with Sunday.

Sunday morning sitting in our chairs with blankets wrapped around us we began our day with virtual worship at our home church in Colts Neck, NJ.

We had special music by one of the bell choirs.

The message focused again on the 23rd Psalm. It begins with a reading of the Psalm in a contemporary version.

Next, we sing a song that highlights the Psalm.

Finally, a member of the congregation will recite the 23rd Psalm from the King James version of the Bible.

Then, either Scott or Debi brings a message that highlights one, maybe two verses of the Psalm. We have found the message series to be a real source of comfort and encouragement week after week.

The rest of the day we played some Mexican Train, watched movies we had stored on the DVR, and dreamed about when we would be back on the road again.

Come Monday.

With just a week to go before we’re on the road I’ve begun to pick up and put things away. It’s amazing how much stuff gets dragged out when you turn your LV into a sort of stationary home. I’ve already thrown a ton of papers and magazines out that I accumulated over the past six months. Of course receipts and stuff like that I first scan into the computer before I deep six it. The rest of the stuff, now if I can only remember where it came from in the first place I could again put it back away. I’m working on it.

I continue to plan for 2022. As of now it appears as if we’re going to need a full two weeks in the state of Ohio, two weeks in the Michigan UP area, and another two weeks in the Black Hills region of South Dakota.

The big question yet to be answered is how do we get from our home base in Polk City to Ohio. Currently the plan is to go through the Florida Panhandle, up to Tennessee and then on to Ohio. However, this is a work in progress and not cast in concrete as they say. The one thing I do know is that I want to stay way far away from Atlanta. Any ideas or suggestions anyone?

We also did a little shopping today. Just a blitz run for the fixings for

A Reuben Braid. It has corn beef, sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing, all wrapped in pizza dough which is then baked. How good was it? This is just a third of the original size of what we started out with! I couldn’t stop eating it, it was delish.

So that is where we are on The Road of Retirement. I’m sitting here once again listening to the rain fall outside. The temperature is also quickly dropping. Time for a warm cup of soup to end the day. Take care one and all.

A Chilly, Windy, Overcast Day

We have definitely done a flip flop again in terms of weather. A few days ago we were pushing 90 degrees, as of today we can’t even get above 60 degrees. The wind coming from the North also made it feel even colder. OK, yes it is a far sight better than what some are suffering through in the Northeast. I’m not complaining, just saying when you’re used to the 80’s and 90’s days like this are a wee bit uncomfortable.

But this is not going to last long. For a fact, by midweek our temperatures should be back up there to what we’re used to. Bottom line, it has been a really funny year in terms of the weather.

Since it was definitely not an outside day we decided to make it a playback day. We had any number of shows that we’ve recorded during the last week so what better time to watch them then today.

We watched a number of Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. Some NCIS and FBI. Even a couple of cooking shows. It was a great way to just pass the day and enjoy being together.

I also began to let myself dream again of where we might go next year once we get back to traveling.

As of now our big trip will be a cruise to Alaska. Of course that is if the cruise ships are actually sailing next year. Our trip is planned for May so we have our fingers crossed that it will actually happen.

After that who knows. I have some ideas of things we’d like to see. For instance, here are some things we are thinking of:

Sauder Village

The Henry Ford Museum

Sleeping Bears Dunes Lakeshore

Michigan’s UP

The Spam Museum

The Jolly Green Giant Museum

Wall Drugstore

Mt Rushmore

That’s just for starters. I’m still in the early stages of putting our list of sights to see together. Then, once it is done I’ll start making a route plan, and finally I’ll begin looking for RV parks and making reservations.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. We sat back and just enjoyed the day. And we began to dream again of places and attractions we’d like to see.

Fantastic Afternoon with Great Friends

Weather wise today was definitely vastly different from yesterday.

It was cool, wet, and windy. Moreover, the weather report is for more of the same for the next several days. Ah well, into every life a little rain must fall.

Be that as it may the afternoon was absolutely fantastic.

We love any time we can spend with Dennis and Pam. We absolutely cherish our friendship with them. I’m not sure, but I believe we’ve known each other now for close to four years.

Once again Pam did not disappoint when it came to supper. She loves to cook and the food she sets before you proves it. Today, she made baked ziti and I had two helpings and could have gone for a third; but, I decided I would be a gentleman and refrain from eating the whole pan. Oh yes, it was that good. And the cheesy garlic bread that she made with it, oh my what a meal.

So we spent the afternoon sharing stories, talking about this and that, and just enjoying our time together. An absolutely perfect afternoon. I mean what is more important than friends and family. The two are worth more than all the gold in the world.

Update on our house.

Our house inspection is done. Items on the list that needed to be corrected have been corrected or are in the process of being corrected. Our mortgage has been approved. We’re getting close to the finish line. We will probably close sometime in the middle of April.

We’re getting excited about our new digs. But again, make no mistake about it this does not mean we are coming off the road. This year we’ll probably spend a good deal of time at the house following my three months of treatment. But next year we have new adventures already planned. We believe we now have the best of both worlds. A place to hang our hat while in Florida for the winter. A great rig to put miles of smiles on our faces.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. We could not have thought of a better way to spend the afternoon then spending it with Pam and Dennis. Thank you friends for a wonderful afternoon.
