Worship At Our Home Church

A Beautiful Day For A Picnic

What a difference a day makes.  Yesterday was dank and gloomy.  It was cool, overcast and it rained off and on throughout the day.  But, today when we awoke the sun was shinning and the sky was a beautiful deep blue.  What a perfect day.

We began our day with worship at our home church in Colts Neck, NJ.

There was special music proveded by one of the Bell Choirs.

Scott continued his message series on Psalm 23.

IMG_4153

We celebrated The Scrament of the Lord’s Supper.

The Benediction and the service was over.

So what to do with the rest of an absolutely gorgeous day?  Ms Barbara had a marvelous idea, how about a picnic!  Absolutely smashing.  Off we went to pick up a couple of sandwiches and then we headed to a place we knew real well. . .

This is a historical state park that is only minutes from our home.  Two years ago we spent four months here working as park volunteers.

IMG_4157.JPG

Our first stop was at one of the picnic pavilions for lunch.

Then we went for a walk around the park.

Sadly, this beautiful gazebo is still closed due to

a huge crack that runs through it from top to bottom on one side.  Two years ago it was hoped that the state would provide funds to repair it but alas that never came to be.

Then I spotted this and I said to Ms Barbara Hey, here is the answer to ever going grocery shopping again!  Needless to day she did not share my enthusiasm.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It was just such a wonderful day.  We both needed a day to just get out and get away.  And doing it together made it even more special.  Thank you Lord for this day and the beauty of the world You created.

When Did Furniture Get So Expensive

Yet another beautiful day in Paradise.  A bit cool at 42 degrees when we first awoke but as soon as the sun came up things began to warm up quickly.

First thing this morning we recieved a verbal summary of yesterday’s house inspection.  There were several really minor areas of concern but nothing major.  We contacted our realator about what was shared with us and he assured us each item would be addressed and corrected.  So the house is still a go.

Time to go furniture shopping.  We had already decided what we wanted to purchase and what our budget would be.  With our list in hand we headed to

IMG_4134

In the past we had found that their prices were reasonable and their customer service was top notch.

Through the double doors we went into acres of furniture.  We had been here earlier in the week and already had a really good idea of what we wanted.

IMG_4122

This will be our living room set minus the coffee table.

IMG_4131

We’ll add these chair side tables to our living room set.

IMG_4124

IMG_4128

This will be our bedroom set.  We also got a new mattress.

IMG_4123

We were also able to purchase our washer and dryer.

IMG_4133

Then came the time of reckoning.  Can you tell by the smile on Lisa’s face that her commission was going to be substantial!  We haven’t purchased furniture in over 30 years so we were a bit shocked by the fact that one needed a second mortgage to pay for it.  Nah, not really.  We were pleased that we were able to purchase all that we wanted and it was all within our budget.

When will it be delivered?  Probably in June when we are back home for a couple of weeks before going back up to UF in Jacksonville.  We’re getting there.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We’re one more step closer to being happy home owners.  So much to do and so little time.  We must have been off our rockers to start all this at this point in time.  But that’s us, seize the moment.

When is a Fish Restaurant Not a Fish Restaurant?

IMG_4107

This is a local restaurant that everyone here in the park raves about.  Oh, you just have to try it out everyone said.  The food is fantastic.  And the location is perfect.  So we decided to give it a try.

IMG_4109

It is located on Lake Panasoffkee and on a bright sunny day it is an awesome setting.

IMG_4113

It has a really great outside eating area with tables nicely spaced out.

IMG_4112

The menu listed all kinds of delicious fish meals and sandwich’s.  Only one problem, we were told when we sat down We;re out of all but one kind of fish.  What?  According to our server it was a busy weekend (ok that was four days ago) and so we are out of just about everything.  That also included draft beer.  Our first impression was not a favorable one.  But we pushed ahead.  We should have quit while we were ahead.

IMG_4117

I started off with a basket of gator bites – at this point I’ve eaten just about all of them.  I just couldn’t get Ms Barbara to go for them!

I was able to order a basket of cat fish fillets and my other half ordered chicken fingers.  Of course I had to go get our meals.  Our server sort of forgot about us.  Did I say we’re not too thrilled with this restaurant.  I will say, though, the food was excellent.  It’s just too bad that the service and just about everything else about this restaurant is oh so bad.  So glad others thought that it was the best of the best but it sure wasn’t for us.  And this was on a slow day.  I wonder what service is like when they get busy?  You probably have to both order and cook your own meal!  Ah well, it was a day out.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We had a great day inspite of our under-whelming restaurant experience.  Hey, you can’t win them all.  Have a restful night one and all.

Getting Caught Up

I guess it is time to get caught up.  Life has been a whirlwind the last several days and it just all sort of crashed in on me.  But, I”m back on top now.  No small thanks to my sweetheart who pulled me through all of it.  So, let me fill you in on what’s been happening in our lives.

Good News Monday

I had a morning appointment with my urologist to go over the results of the scans I had taken last week.  It was all good news.  The cancer is localized in and around the prostate and has not gone further.  I believe for the first time in weeks both my wife and I finally started to breath again.  Yes, it is the most agressive kind but we now know it is possible to beat it.

I can tell you one thing, I sure do have a whole new appreciation for everyone suffering during this pandemic.  The unknowns that they must be dealing with.  Will I be in my home next week?  Where will our next meal come from?  I wonder when I can get back to work?  The unknown can and will just eat you up and bring you down.

Later in the day Ms Barbara received her second vaccine shot.  By the next day her arm was a bit warm and she had a big bump but other than that she was – and is – doing OK.  My turn is coming up next week for my second vaccine shot.

Terrible Tuesday

What a difference a day makes.  We both woke up under the weather Tuesday morning.  We weren’t quite sure what happened but, thankfully, we were both feeling better by that afternoon.  The unfortunate thing is we were supposed to visit with Harry and Janet and had to cancel.

The weather was also a bit weird.  One minute we had sunshine.  The next minute it was raining.  This pattern continued throughout the day.  But the worse was yet to come the following morning.

Weird and Wonderful Wednesday.

Today started with a boom, a very, very, very loud boom and a flash of lightening that turned night into day.  This was at 5:15 in the morning.  The Facebook page for the park came alive in a big way.  A tree in the back had been split in two.  The cable service in the back of the park was gone.  As was a couple of TV’s in one individual’s rig.  Car alarms were going off.  Dogs were running for cover.  What a way to wake a person up.

In time things settled down.  It continued to rain until about 8am but then just like that it stopped and the day turned absolutely beautiful.  Clear blue skies and abundant sunshine for the rest of the day.

Time now for us to get on the road since Ms. Barbara had an appointment for blood work.  This took all of about 15 minutes and finally she could have breakfast.

Once we finished with breakfast we were back on the road and headed to our new house.  We wanted to take some measurements so we could make some decisions regarding exactly what furniture we wanted to purchase.

This is the first time we were able to just sit and enjoy our new home.  We were able to dream about the day when we move in.  What it will be like to come home after traveling here and there.  I believe I’m finally warning up to the idea.  Time will tell.

So that is what we’ve been doing on The Road of Retirement.  We continue to plan and dream about our days on the road.  We may not be doing much traveling this year but we’ll get back to it in due time.  Life may not be what we were expecting right now but we really have no reason to complain.
