You’re In The Army Now

Gooooooooooooood Morning World!

Not a bad morning at all.  Ms Barabara was up at the crack of dawn, well before me.  Thus, at 7 am she went to the office to sign us in and to let our service advisor know we were here.  That’s when she discovered that she was out sick for the week.  Oh boy, we thought here we go.

Then surprise, surprise at 7:30 am someone, another service advisor, was at our rig to go over our work order.  Well, we thought this was a good sign.  Perhaps Elvira would really go into the shop early this morning.

With hopes high we left for Ms Barbara’s doctor’s apppointment.  We honestly believed that when we returned we would find Elvira in the shop.

Doctor’s appointment over we started for home and that is when we learned that we had enlisted in the Army.  Anyone know what their favorite saying is?  Sure you know, it is hurry up and wait.  We received a phone call informing us that they would not be able to start work until sometime in the afternoon.  OK, that’s still today.

Back home we ate lunch and wondered just exactly what did they mean by this afternoon?  Next phone call and we were told by 1:30 pm.  Really?

Yipee, 1:30 pm and Eric was at our rig.  But wait a minute, he came in a golf cart.  How can you drive that and Elvira back to the shop.  Maybe he was going to have me drive the rig into the shop?  Nope, he simply came to see what had to be done and to get a game plan together.

Tonight this is where we stand.  First,  to their credit they are really good at communicating with you.  They do keep in touch.  Second, Eric is a certified tech and has ten years of experience.  We have a veteran in charge of our work.  Third, he informed us that Elvira would go into the shop tomorrow at 7:30 am.  He had assembled a crew to help him get the washer/dryer out and assist with the rest of the work.  Things are looking good – at least for now.

IMG_3083

That was our day on The Road of Retirment.  Honestly, I’m surprised at how well things are moving along.  Maybe, just maybe we’ll get out of here by Wednesday.  Maybe.  At least we have a good site to sit and wait.  So, tomorrow morning we’ll watch Elvira head off to the shop and we’ll head off to doctor’s appointments.  Hopefully, when we return in the afternoon all or most all of the work will be done.  We remain optimistic.

Appreciate your checking in with us today.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

These are the voyages of  Elvira and her two intrepid travelers.  Our continuing mission: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have never been before.

See you on down the road!

Worship At Our Home Church In Colts Neck, New Jersey

On The Road

It’s Always Something – Or As Someone Said “Full Time RV’ing is “A Giggle A Minute”

Goooooooooooooooood Morning World!

IMG_3054

We awoke to a rather different kind of morning.  Pea soup fog blanketed the whole park.  You could barely see to the end of our block.  The fog hung around until well past 10 am.  After it burned off the day was an absolute delight.

IMG_3056

We began our Sunday as we usually do, joining in worship with our home congregation at Colt Necks, New Jerssey.

IMG_3057

Scott delivered the call to worship.

IMG_3058

Our first song.

IMG_3062

Lighting of the Advent Candle in the sanctuary.

IMG_3064

And we lit our own Advent Candle.

IMG_3071

There was special music by one of the Bell Choirs.

IMG_3070

Scott delivered another great message.  His emphasis was on Joy and how we can experience it even it the midst of our turbulent and chaotic world.  He stressed that Joy is not pleasure nor happiness but it is a gift given to us by God that can never be taken from us.  He emphasized that we can have Joy no matter what because God is making all things new.

IMG_3080

This was the highlight of the service.  The consistory (the church board) presented Scott and Kay a handmade quilt with individual squares signed by members of the congregation in recognition of their 30 years of service to the congregation.

Once church was over we began packing up for our afternoon move.  First, though, it was time for our mid-day meal.  Ms Barbara had made a big pot of crock pot chilli.  It had just the right touch of seasoing and was oh so delicious.  I know what I’m also having for our snack tonight.

Lazydays RV at The Villages - RV Dealers - 4505 Monaco Way, Wildwood, FL - Phone Number - Yelp

This was our destination today since we needed to get some work done.  Lazydays In The Villages was fomerly known as Alliance RV.  We had some work done by them a couple of years ago on our fomer rig.  We were absolutely pleaed with the level of customer service as well as the work in the service department.  We did a little research and discovered that everyone from Alliance had remaind on after it changed hands.  Therefore, we were comfortable returning here.

Leaving, however, was not without a bit of excitment.  Oh yes getting ready to go was a giggle a minute.  None of our slides wanted to come in.  Not a one.  Each one took multiple pushes of their respective slide switch before they decided to cooperate.  It seems when they are not used for a period of time they don’t want to cooperate.  Maybe I need to move them in and out once a week.  In fact I believe that is what I am going to try going forward.  But the fun wasn’t over.  More about that in a minute.

IMG_3084

Thirty minutes later and we had arrived.  Thankfully, they had called Friday and told us the front gate was closed for construction.

IMG_3085

Forewarned, we came in the back gate which really is a lot easier since it brings you

IMG_3086

right into the free campground in the back.

IMG_3083

IMG_3087

Our site, level, wide enough with 50 amp service and water.  Moreover, we have a clear view of the southern sky for our Dish antenna.  There is, in addition, a dump site right around the corner.

Remember I said before that the fun with the slides was not over yet?  Well, each went out without a problem.  However, after the front driver’s side slide was out I noticed a number of ball bearings rolling around the floor.

All of which means, I believe we are going to be here a bit longer than we first thought since now the slide rollers will need to be replaced.  Yup, always something or better put a giggle a minute!

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. We had an easy day and an easy move.  We would much rather be at our winter home but this isn’t all that bad.  Now, if we can get everything done that we need to in a timely manner it would be great.  We’ll see what they have to say tomorrow.  Wish us well.

Appreciate your checking in with us today.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

Alternatives for Home Base

Gooooooood Morning World!

Oh what a beautiful day to wake up to.  Thank you Lord for the warm morning sun and the clear blue sky.  Thank you for a warm cup of coffee and a muffin.  Thank you for the promise of a day full of wonder and delight.  In spite of all it is still a great day to be alive.

Today the Wood Shop opened up.  We had a meeting of all those who had joined the club.  They have an impressive array of equipment to say the least.  They started asking what each would like to do.  Some said I make salad bowls and candle holders.  Others said cutting boards and end tables.  I didn’t have the heart to tell them the reason I joined was just so I could make two bottoms for our kitchen chairs!

I discovered a few more Christmas decorations.

Lately, probably due to COVID-19, we’ve been talking a lot about establishing a home base.  We’ve considered Arizona but now Florida is back in the running.  There is a lot to like about Arizona but I have to admit there is even more to like about Florida.  Ms Barbara has established relationships with doctors that she likes.  The VA is closer here than in Arizona.  I’ve found shops in the area that I’m comfortable with in terms of service and repair for Elvira.  Then, too, all our family is here on the east coast.

IMG_3048

So today we did a little dreaming.  They are building a park model section in the back that consists of modular homes and we decided to investigate what they had to offer.  We both liked what we saw.

IMG_3042

This was a two bedroom, two bath model.

IMG_3047

It also had a carport and a storage shed.  While we were there two more units were sold leaving only two more lots available in the current development.  The question of course is, will they open up another section behind this one?

Well, we’re not ready to settle down quite yet but what they have to offer right now is very appealing.   Time, and a lot more miles under our wheels, is in store for us before we do anything like this.

Yet, one thing has been sort of decided already.  We’ll probably be back out here the end of 2021.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We spent it together our way hand in hand, traveling along, sing our song.

Thanks again for stopping by today.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

Running The Roads

It Never Fails

New Tools

Gooooooooooooood Morning World!

OK, I promise no more talk of the weather and the colder temperatures.  As others have reminded me, you think it is cold there, you should be here.

Yesterday we spent running the roads.  We were out of the house at 7:15 am and didn’t get back home until after 3 pm.

quest

This was our first stop.  Ms Barbara had an 8:30 am appointment for blood work.  The results came back today and most everything looks good.

great clips

Second stop, Ms Barbara needed a hair cut.

battery boys

Third stop.  We needed to return our old coach batteries inorder to get credit for our core charge. They were great people to deal with.  Did you notice what is on the bottom of their sign?

chevy

Fourth stop, Little Graybeard needed some attention.  I wonder maybe we need to give our car a new name.  Son of Elvira?  The Little Chevy That Could?  Or?  Suggestions anyone?

It was a long but productive day.

Today we just kicked back and enjoyed an absolutely beautiful day.

I took another ride around the park and discovered some more Christmas decorations.  Surprisingly, there are not a whole lot to be found.

Today, the electrician came over to take a look at what might be wrong with our one slide.  His name is Greg and he lives in the park and is the resident electrician.  I’m sure you know what happened?  Every time he hit the switch the slide worked each and every time.  Go figure.  His parting comment was, If you get in trouble just give me a call.

IMG_3035

Look what came today!  Slowly but surely I’m collecting some long wanted power tools.  This is the electric screw driver that I’ve been looking at for months.  Ms Barbara said it was my Christmas gift.  Works for me.

IMG_3037

I received this wonderful plaque from a fellow veteran.  He hand makes them and gives them to all the veterans he meets in the park.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

IMG_3036

I also made a trip over to the lending library.  We now have enough books for the two of us for a month or more

For our big mid-day meal Ms Barbara made a pork roast in the crock pot.  She rounded the meal off with mashed potatoes, vegtables and gravy.  Each bite was better than the one before it.  It was delicious.  Oh yes, I was once again a member of the clean plate club.

We wondered when it was going to happen.  They’ve now closed the park office.  You can only communicate with them through email or phone.  The COVID-19 cases are steadly climbing in our county though it is not as bad as other areas in Florida.  Every time we have to go to the store, a doctor’s appointment, or an appointment for repairs on Elvira we say a silent prayer and mask up.  Even still, every time out makes us extremely nervous.

That was our past two days on The Road of Retirement.  It was a beautiful, warm day today which we absolutely enjoyed.  We just sort of chilled, read a book, watched a movie and mostly did nothing at all.  Before I go I just wanted to share this with you as you prepare to face another new day. . .

It’s the start of a brand new day, and I’m off like a herd of turtles.

Thanks again for stopping by today.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.
