March 4th, Sunday – Back on Track

Oh yea, back on track!  I made a New Year’s resolution that I would never be sick for more than one day – and I’m sticking to it.

So it was up and out today, after I got done shivering.  Where in the world did the warm morning temperatures go?  It was 46 degrees outside today which is way too cold especially when you are used to waking up to temperatures in the mid 60’s and higher.  Heat pump to the rescue!  Thirty minutes later, we were all roasty toasty warm.

This being Sunday first order of business was church.  You bet I wanted to give thanks, for the blessings of the past week, and for a speedy recovery.  Sorry to say, however, there was a guest preacher today and even now thinking about it I have no idea what he was trying to get across.  Nevertheless, I was grateful for the chance to be in God’s house.

On the way home we decided to stop for a bite to eat at Robins Country Kitchen.  At least that was the plan.  Unfortunately, it was rather a small, really, really small place with maybe 6 tables inside and 4 outside and all were taken.  Perhaps another time we’ll give it a try.

Home we went for a brunch of sorts.  Then we were off again to Dade Battlefield for

WWII

From January to June 1944 the US Army 622 Air Warning Signal Company was stationed at what was then called Dade Memorial Park..  A contemporary sketch by one of the men stationed there shows a number of tents, mess hall, motor pool, shower room stretched out around the property.  It remained an active military base for many years after.

Beginning in 2005 the park began holding a WWII commemoration weekend with various displays, a live fire demonstration of various weapons used during WWII, and a reenactment of a battle between American and German forces.  Below are some of the pictures from this weekends commemoration.

Well, if I can’t afford Bill’s Doghouse from yesterday then I guess this would have to do!

I wonder, do think this could be turned into a Super C?  Sure would be different!

Here’s me in our new toad.  Lite weight, easy to maintain, and good on gas!  Actually when I was in Vietnam I owned one of these.  It’s a long story, ask me sometime if you are interested.

That was our afternoon.  But the day was far from over.  For supper, Barbara made a pork roast in the convection oven.  I must say she is getting real good at using that gizmo.  The roast came out great!  I enjoyed every bite of it and am looking forward to the leftovers.

After supper, we went to the clubhouse where they were showing the remake of

Barbara and I quite truthfully were not impressed.  The original, hands down, was the best.

So now we are home.  Movie night tonight.  I believe it will be Star Trek once again.  Why not?  It’s a series we both enjoy.

That was our day.  From beginning to end we again had an enjoyable day.  We hope you did too.  If not then resolve tomorrow to do something to make you and the world around you a better place for all.  And now I want to leave you with this, a thought shared this afternoon by a family member of a WWII veteran:

When you are annoyed by that old codger going slow in front of you.  When you are annoyed because he just will not move over think for a minute, that just may be a veteran and then remember what you owe him, the freedoms you enjoy today

As always,  if you are coming to the end of your day with concerns and worries let me suggest that you turn them over to God.  After all, He is going to be up all night so why not let him handle them for you.

Time now for our evening prayers and some shut-eye.  Till tomorrow.  Thanks again for sharing our day with us.
