Life With Proton

To say that life with Proton has been interesting is a definite understatement. Proton, in case anyone missed my blog at the beginning of the week is the new four legged member of our house. He was a stray running up and down the highway outside our RV Park. Since no one claimed him, we did.

Let me bring everyone up to date as to what life has been like since he joined our family. I was told that he was a runner. I was told that if he ever saw an open door he would be gone in a flash. We found out how true that was on Tuesday. I was trying to sneak out the front door and before I knew it, he was out and gone. The chase was on! We wended our way around trailers, cars, and boats. Down the campground road we went. Then just like that it was over. He laid down on the campground road with all four legs in the air and waited for me to come and collect him. Suffice to say, we will be much more careful in the future.

Then there was last night. Since we’ve had him, at night he has been sleeping in a large dog crate that we purchased for him. Well, last night I got ready for bed, said goodnight to my sweetheart and headed off to bed. Want to guess who I found in the middle of our bed? OK, I figured we’ll give it a try. All was good for the first few hours with him all curled up at the foot of the bed. But not for long. I got up in the middle of the night for my first bathroom break, came back to bed, and now he is sleeping on my pillow! We immediately worked out a different sleeping arrangement which worked for him and me.

Today was grooming day. Heather, a local groomer was recommended by the vet. She was absolutely awesome! You can either go to her house, or she will come to you. Today, she came to us. She brought a table and chair and all her equipment. Proton was as good as gold the whole time. He did get a little testy when she did his one front paw but that was because his pads were in need of some attention. She worked on him for over an hour and I believe you’ll agree with me,

the end result is quite stunning! Here is the all new, all spiffy Proton.

This, of course, is what he looked like when we first brought him home. Quite a difference for sure!

After all this stress in his life, he decided it was definitely time for a good, long nap in

Ms. Barbara’s recliner! This young man is definitely making himself at home day by day.

That is where we are at in terms of Proton on The Road of Retirement. We feel so fortunate to have him in our lives. Obviously, God decided we needed a new companion to travel with us and so he sent us the best. Yes, we still have a long way to go in terms of obedience training, and hopefully to break him of his desire to always run away. We’re committed, though, to the task however long it takes.

Thanks for taking the time to read our blog.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Remember, take time to stop and smell the roses and live each day that God gives you to the fullest.

  1. After that chase did Bill need to lay down with his legs in the air? Proton apparently has alot of energy yet . Do they have a dog play area at the campground that you could turn him loose and you sit and watch until it’s time for him to lay down with his legs in the air? 😁 God certainly does put us in the right area at the right time. Enjoy !!!

    1. Oh yes, when Bill got home he flopped in his chair and put his two legs up and didn’t move for quite a long time! They have dog park but it has so many small openings that he could get out we can’t take him. Enjoy your weeklend.

  2. What a cute little doggy! He seems to be adjusting quite well in his new home – and certainly making himself comfortable. I do think Proton was sent from above! Enjoy the weekend!
