Worship At Our Home Church In Colts Neck

A Shady Situation

Can You See Me Now

A Not So Splendide Situation

OK, not ever night can be the best.  Last night I just could not sleep.  Don’t ask me why, there was nothing in particular on my mind.  On the other hand Ms Barbara slept just great.  One out of two is not bad.

We began our Sunday morning as we usually do.

Pastor Scott was in charge of worship today.

Our opening song.

We had special music provided by two members of the congregation.

As part of the service there was a time for the younger members via video to say what they were thankful for.  Some of the responses were:  apple pie, ice cream, my brother or sister, parents, staying home from school, and so on and so forth.

Following worship . . .

It was time to tackle the shady situation that was hanging over me.

IMG_2898

I gathered my tools together in anticipation of rolling this project up.

IMG_2894

In short order I had the drop on this project.

Moving on to a really windy situation . . .

IMG_2895

I took our window fan apart and cleaened all the junk that had been accumulating inside it.

Moving to the outside . . . .

IMG_2900

I took the time to clean our windows.  Can you see me now?

IMG_2899

In the meantime Ms Barbara was cutting up vegtables and getting things ready for our Thanksgiving meal.

We were just breezing through the day without a care in the world until . . .

IMG_2896

Ms Barbara unfortunately used the wrong kind of fabric softener in our washer/dryer and for some reason it overflowed.  Can you say flood?  It is going to have to come out so we can get the area dry.  Then we need to figure out how to unclog the unit so we can use it again.  Oh, this is going to be fun.

That is where we are on The Road of Retirement.  We had a good day except for the washer/dryer and even that, though annoying, will eventually be resolved.  Time and money can fix anything.  Or so they say.  We still consider ourselves to be two of the most blessed and fortunate people in the world.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments and suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

Nothing Accomplished

Oh I had all kinds of plans for today.  But before I knew it the day was done and I hadn’t accomplished one blessed thing.

Not that I didn’t try.  I wanted to put the last shade up. It was late afternoon and I knew it was not the time to start doing it.  But, how long could it take I though.

Well, a funny thing happened on the way to accomplishing getting that shade up.  I rested the new shade on the back of the couch over which it was going to go.

Really bad move.  In a flash it fell behind the couch.  OK, just reach down there and pull it back up.  Nope.  It was wedged under the frame of the couch.  I ended up having to pull the couch out to get to it and get it out.

I’ll try again tomorrow.

At least Ms Barbara accomplished something.  She was able to get caught up on the laundry.

Remember the two bowls that had gotten stuck together?  We tried all kinds of tricks to separate them.  Well, I picked them up again a few days ago and I heard a clink, then just like that they came apart.  Go figure.

One more item to share with you.  A quote which I believe is so very true. . . .

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety. Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could…. This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.Ralph Waldo Emerson

That’s it for our journey today on The Road of Retirement.  A real exciting day, hey?

Those Pesky Steps – Now We Know

Let There Be Shades

It was oh so nice not to have anywhere to go early this morning.  We didn’t have to rise at the crack of dawn.  We didn’t have to be on the road oh so early.  We just took our time waking up.  Cup of coffee in hand we just sat back and relaxed and enjoyed the beginning of the new day that God had given us.

IMG_2868

Remember those pesky steps that would neither stay in nor out?  Well, we now know what the problem is.

Lippert Components 379167 Step Motor (for 42 Series Step) | eBay

The problem is the step motor.  More to the point it is the internal plastic gear assembly.  The gears are stripped and therefore will no longer lock the step in either the out or the in position. The nice thing is, I have go to parts specialist that specializes in parts for older Newmar’s.  A quick call to him this morning and within 30 minutes I had a new motor on order.  In about a week we should be back in business.

IMG_2864

Till then I have the steps locked back in the open position so that we can get in and out.

I finished one more project today.

IMG_2861

It was time to put the new shades up.  At least one of them since I only had enough brackets to put the smaller one up.  More brackets are on order.

IMG_2869

Down came the valance with the old day/night shade.  The old shade was frayed and missing the bottom rail.

IMG_2874

Next, I removed the old shade from the valance.

IMG_2875

Time to mount the new slow rise day/night shade and adjust how far up it goes and how fast it gets there.  In essence after it is down, you tug once on it and it slowly begins to go up and stops at the exact same place every time.  Really neat.

IMG_2876

All put back together and back up where it belongs.  The really nice thing is the colors perfectly match the other older day/nigh shades.

One more day/night shade to put up.  As soon as the brackets arrive I’ll take care of it.

The scheduling coordinator in The Republic of Newmar.  She has been diligently working to get my MRI scheduled but dealing with the VA takes persistence and patience.  Unfortunately, I don’t have much of the later so I’m not allowed to make the necessary phone calls.  I get a bit uptight and tend to take my frustrations out on whoever is on the other end of the phone.  Thankfully, my other half has the patience of a saint.  So in between doing the laundry she spent hours on the phone.  Unfortunately, it is still not scheduled.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  A nice relaxing day.  One problem was diagnosed and a fix is in the works.  One shade is up.  Phone calls are being made to the VA and hopefully a few more will bring some resolution.  The weather remains an absolute delight.  Thank you Lord for our wonderful life.

Running the Roads

So we seem to have settled into a really nice weather pattern.  We have cool, crisp evenings which is great for sleeping.  The days are cool but sunny, with strong winds out of the north.  No complaints from either of us.

We were talking about what it was like about three years ago when we started this nomadic lifestyle.  We began our full time journey in New Jersey in the winter.  Talk about cold, never again do I want to go through the conditions we suffered with then.  We had the furnance going, a small electric heater on high and we were wearing sweats and often were wrapped up in blankets.  But you could never really get warn.  Oh no, we’re never going back to that again.

Not much to share today.  We had a few errands to run and Ms Barbara had another doctor’s appointment,

Piesanos Stone Fired Pizza on Twitter: "Hungry? Stop by for a delicious meal! 😋🍕🍝 #Piesanos #StoneFiredPizza #PintsandPies #GainesvilleFL # OcalaFL… "

We stopped here for lunch since we both had a real hankering for pizza.

They make a special cauliflower crust pizza which is the best for Ms Barbara.

Then we were off to yet one more doctor’s appointment.  I really don’t know which one this one was.  I’ve lost track of who is who and who specializes in what.  I’m just the guy who drives Ms. Barbara where she needs to go.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  A lot of driving.  A little bit of this and that. We accomplished what we had to do and that was really what it was all about.  Some days are just like that.  Now tomrrow, well tomorrow I hope to get some projects taken care of.  Time will tell.
