Time with Family

Where Oh Where Did It Go

Oh what a beautiful day we awoke to. The sky was crystal clear, the wind was gentle but oh as the day would demonstrate

the heat is on. The bottom number is the temperature outside in the shade! The top number is prior to turning the AC on. We thought we could do without it but oh how silly we were.

We had a wonderful day from start to finish. At noontime Harry and Janet came to visit and brought lunch for all from Subway. We spent a delightful afternoon together talking about just about everything under the sun. Barb and I agree these times together are so really special to us. We hope to be spending much more time together going forward since they own a home in Fort Myers.

Have you ever put something down but then couldn’t remember where you put it?

I had been reading this book throughout the morning as we waited for Harry and Janet. Well, when I saw them pull in I put it down – and it disappeared! At least I thought so. I searched the car, inside Elvira, all around outside and could not find it. It was driving me nuts.

I was about to give up and begin reading yet another book but I thought I’d take one more look outside. That’s when I picked up the lid for the garbage can which was lying on the outside work table – and there underneath was my book! Silly me.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. We absolutely enjoy any time we can spend with family. In the months ahead we will be doing much more of this. It’s the whole reason we’re heading up the East Coast again. Oh yea, we’re getting close to moving out and we’re getting excited. In a way it will seem so strange since we’ve been sitting way too long in one place. But it’s time and we can’t wait to be on our way.

Thanks for taking the time to read our blog.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

Happy Birth To My Sweetheart

The Big Test

I got her good this year. All day yesterday I played dumb regarding her birthday. I didn’t let on that it was today, nope not even once. She later confessed that she thought I had forgotten it. But not to be.

Today, her birthday, in the early morning hours why she was still sleeping I quietly slipped out of the house and went to the store.

And I did not return empty handed. Oh no. This is what she found on the counter this morning when she finally woke up. Surprise, I didn’t forget. Oh yea, I got her real good this year!

Well, since we were up we decided to take a trip to the VA Clinic in Brooksville to pick up

my left hearing aid which had been repaired and was ready for pickup. OK, I’ll say it again, I was wrong this time in that they actually managed to repair it and get it back to me in just a week. Moreover, these new hearing aids are so comfortable I’ve already more than once forgot to take them out before I went to bed. If there is one problem with them it’s that you can hear everything, I mean everything all around you. I’ve begun to hear sounds coming from Elvira that I never knew existed. A bit weird but I’m getting used to it.

The birthday celebration was not over.

I promised her she would not have to clutter up the kitchen this morning because I would take her out for breakfast. This is a favorite place of ours for breakfast and once again it did not disappoint. We both had great breakfast plates and super service. A win – win in our book.

After breakfast it was time for THE BIG TEST. We needed to fill the gas tank in Little Graybeard. I wondered, was the crazy issue with it dying after getting gas actually solved? I filled it up, clicked the gas cap closed, and decided to go for it. No test trip around the gas station, oh no, I immediately headed into traffic. Guess what? It’s FIXED! No stutter, no hesitation, and it didn’t die. Yipee!

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. We had a great day in every way. And I do believe the birthday girl absolutely loved her birthday surprises. Now, how am I going to top this one next year? Thankfully, I have a year to plot and plan.

Doctor’s Appointment – For Little Gray Beard

An Afternoon Ice Cream Stop

This time change is definitely messing with my mind. I still can’t get used to the sun coming up so late in the morning nor going down so late in the evening. I mean, there is no sun in the morning to warm these old bones as I sit in my chair to watch the news.

Well, we had another Doctor’s appointment this morning, but not for either one of us rather it was for

Little Gray Beard. We’ve had an ongoing issue with the car for sometime now. We would go to a gas station, fill up, click the gas cap to make sure it was properly closed, and then drive off. But we usually would get no more than 100 yards or more and the car would just shut off. So we would coast to the side of the road, put it in park, and it would start back up and be OK until the next time we got gas.

So. today into the shop it went. They believe they discovered the reason for this strange behavior and got our OK to correct it. Of course, the fix was not an inexpensive one. Nor a quick one. All total we spent some five hours at the dealer and came away with a wallet much lighter than when we went there.

While there I roamed the dealer showroom floor and I thought I had discovered my next toad. But alas, they told me that it could not be flat towed so that was the end of that!

Time to head home and now we had a decision to make – home for a cold beer or stop at . . . .

for a really great cup of ice cream. Believe me when I say the decision was an easy one.

If it is candy that you want, the sky is the limit when you are shopping here. There is something for everyone in this huge store.

But we were not here for candy, rather we were after the ice cream. It is absolutely delish.

One scoop of Butter Pecan, sugar free for Ms. Barbara.

Two scoops for me, one of Peanut Butter and the other Chocolate Chip Mint. Not a bad way to end a long day.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. We’ll know tomorrow if the car is really fixed because we’re going to fill it up since we have a trip to Brooksville to pick up my repaired hearing aid. OK, I was wrong they did get it repaired in less than a week. As for today, what can I say. It was what it was. At least we both were able to finish the books we were reading. I guess that counts for something.

Our Safelite Story

Sammie’s Never Disappoints

Stocking the Lockers

Coming back home last week on I75 I heard a crack and there in front of my eyes I saw a ding in the windshield. It didn’t look that bad and I though it could be repaired. Who to call? Well, almost immediately I thought of Safelite. I mean they have such nifty commercials with all those satisfied customers. Thus, once we were home Ms Barbara made a few phone calls and set up an appointment for today.

During the week we received email after email letting us know that our Safelite Tech would be here this morning between 8 am and 12 noon. So we rearranged our schedule and then we sat and waited. Well 8 became 9, 9 became 10, 10 became 11 and finally at 11:30 am we received a phone call. The tech was over an hour away and didn’t believe he was going to be able to make the appointment. Are you kidding me? Well, we cancelled our appointment and started looking for someone new.

That was our Safelite story and it definitely was not a good one. My advice, think twice before you use them.

With the morning gone we decided it was time to go get some lunch.

Time to go get some hot dogs. The only place for them is of course Sammie’s. They make the best chili dogs in the whole area. I had my usual as did Ms Barbara and then we were on our way.

Lunch finished we were off to do some shopping. The cupboards and the lockers are a bit bare and we needed to restock before we leave the end of the month. We spent an hour roaming the aisles and then we headed home to put everything away.

One more stop today. I had an appointment for my second vaccine shot. One, two, three and it was over. As of this evening I have no side effects. That’s not to say tomorrow will not be a different story. Yet, as of now I’m doing fine. So, we are now both double shot card carrying vaccine club members as of today.

That was our day on The Day of Retirement. The day got off to a bad start but it ended just fine. The big bonus of course is the weather. The sky is a deep blue, the winds are light, and the temperatures are just where we like them to be. We’re enjoying each day to the fullest.
