We Got It Right This Time

I’m Beginning To Wonder Why We Ever Bought A House

A Sad Day Indeed

A Fine Mid-Day Supper

Up and out again to the same doctor we visited yesterday.  Well, yesterday was only a test run.  You know, where is his office (we’ve only been there half a dozen times), would there be adequate parking (there is usually noone in the parking lot) and so forth.  All of which is to say yesterday was not Ms Barbara’s appointment but today was.  Yup, we once again made it in plenty of time.  Plus, today was the correct day.  Yipee!

I have to be honest life was so much easier before we bought a house.  Elvira is paid off.   Ok, we had some issues we had to straighten out and a few items to fix.  But, she has been a comfortable home and a dependable form of transportation.

Then we went and bought a house.  Since then it has been reams of forms and every kind of inspection under the sun.  If I had to take care of it all I believe I would have thrown in the towel almost immediately.  Ms Barbara, though, has been taking it all in stride.  She has worked through all the forms, made the necessary phone calls, and arranged for one inspection after another.  This is, in many ways, her house.  And I have no problem with that.  It is what I intended all along.

Today brought a tear to my eye.  Today, I cancelled all of our reservations for our western swing this year.  No more reservations.  No more route planning.  Next year, hopefully, we’ll be able to travel out west.  That’s the plan right now.  But then again, who knows what next year will bring.  This year sure didn’t turn out the way we thought it would.

The highlight of our day.  We bought some corn at the farmer’s market the other day and yesterday picked up a couple of steaks.

IMG_4226

Out came the grill and we had a good old fashion barbecue.  It kind of took the sting out of the day.

Lunch over it was time to ride around the park.

IMG_4231

Look who I found today.  All dressed and ready for the pool.

IMG_4230

The Hood, though, is beginning to empty out.  Many rigs are gone and others are closed up as people have begun to move north again.  Our turn is coming.

IMG_4232.JPG

In the back park section they continue to set new houses.  As of now there is only one vacant lot left.  The big news is they are now going to develop the section behind the current park models.  However, they are going to be setting new homes with RV Ports.  But, the lots will not be deeded.  A big negative if you ask me.  A mortgage payment plus lot rent?  Not my cup of tea.  Plus, I can’t help but wonder what is going to happen when an original owner tries to sell.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We had a super day from start to finish.  We enjoyed the day and each other’s company.  Soon, now, we’ll be on the road again heading north toward family and friends.  We’re getting anxious.  We’re ready to go.  We’re looking forward to being on the road again.  We’re looking forward to traveling along, hand in hand, singing our song!

Right Doctor Wrong Day

Taxes Submitted – Refund Coming

We were up and at it early this morning.  Ms Barbara had an early morning doctor’s apppointment.  We were out in record time and arrived fifteen minutes early.  Only problem was, we had the right doctor but the wrong day!  Oh well back we go again tomorrow for the real appointment.

Back on the road again we headed to the VA clinic in Brooksville.  Last week I received new hearing aids and they are the greatest.  However, the one for my left ear was not working properly.  I was told to bring it back and the tech would take a look at it.  Well, I dropped it off and was told it would be fixed in about a week.  I’m not holding my breath.

Back home and ready to relax but it was not to be.  We were home just about an hour when we received a call from H&R Block letting us know that our taxes were ready.  They asked us to come in around 5:30 in the afternoon to go over them.  Another trip back to Brooksville.

We had no idea as to what to expect.  Would we owe?  Was a refund due?  Quickly enough we discovered that

we would be getting a refund!  Now how about that.  Not only would we be getting a refund but the refund was for the exact amount that we were quoted for new windows for our house.  But wait it only gets better.  While in the office our tax return was submitted.  Well, by the time we got home – which was a forty five minute ride – we received an email that they had been received and accepted.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It definitely was a litte bit of this and a little bit of that.  Quite frankly, we’re both just a wee bit tired after the last couple of days.  Matter of fact I believe I’m turning in early tonight.  Sleep tight everyone.

Time with Family

Strawberry Shortcake with Ice Cream

The anticipation is beginning to build.  A couple of more weeks and we’ll be back on the road.  Oh yea!  Our first trip will be a short, shake down trip to Fort Myers for some work on the front of Elvira.  Once that is done we’ll be rolling north to visit friends and family.  Let the good times roll!

As for today.  Today was a day for family.  We were going to meet Harry and Janet at. . .

The Parkesdale Farmer’s Market.  We’ve been here before and whenever an opportunity arises to go back you can bet we’ll jump at it.

IMG_4194

Anyone ever had a Strawberry Onion?  Neither have I but we purchased one just to see what they taste like.  They tell me they are called strawberry onions because they are grown in the same fields as the strawberries – hence their name.

IMG_4196

They also had all kinds of other onions.

IMG_4195

Watermelons if you please.

IMG_4201

Tomatoes anyone?

IMG_4200

And let’s not forget the strawberries.

But we weren’t here for the fruit.

IMG_4207

This is what we were here for.  Strawberry shortcake and ice cream!

And of course to spend time with Ms Barbara’s brother

Harry – that’s him waiting patiently for his treat.

This is his wife Janet bringing the goodies for the two of them.

And my sweetheart bringing ours.

OK, let’s go for a walk around the market and see what else beside fruit and ice cream that we can find.  How about some signs, such as. . . .

Let’s not forget the plants.

Nor the lawn decorations.

This is truly a wonderful and fascinating place.  There is so much to see and you never know what you’ll find around the next corner.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It was a super day in so many ways.  We got to spend time with Harry and Janet.  We were able to enjoy some really great strawberries and ice cream.  What more can one ask for?  It was a day sent from God for us to enjoy, and enjoy it we did, each and every precious minute of the day.

First Step Forward In Treatment

Time To Pay Up

Ah what a beautiful cold, crisp morning.  When we awoke it was 42 degrees outside and a nice brisk 59 degrees in our living room.  As long as it doesn’t go down in the 30’s we usually leave the heat off at night.  The first one up – guess who – gets to turn the heat pump on inorder to warm up the house.

We didn’t have any early morning appointments so we just sort of eased into the day real slow.  A cup of coffee or two and a muffin got us started.

We had one phone call to make this morning which once it was over convinced us that – yes – we were going to have to have someone do our taxes this year.  But before we get to that. . .

I had an appointment at my urologist for my first hormone shot.  Now, I won’t go so far to say that I’m a chicken when it comes to needles.  But suffice to say I do have a strong dislike for them.

Especially when someone is poking one anywhere into my body.  Even more so when its my  gluteus maximus that is the intended target.

Well, I’m sure you can guess what the intended target was this afternoon.  And for the next 12 shots!

Of course the one with the sharp, pointy thing in their hand always says I guarantee you this won’t hurt a bit.  I felt like saying, OK, if that is so you give me my shot and I’ll give you one for good measure.

One down, eleven more to go.

Time now to pay up.  Like in Lets figure out how much we owe this year in taxes.  Ms. Barbara usually does our taxes but not this time.  She took one look at the twenty six pages of forms that she had received regarding our taxes and just shook her head.

So off we went to the local H&R Block office in Brooksville.  Ms Barbara took everything in and came out in a bit saying that she felt comfortable with the tax preparer who would be taking care of our taxes.  Oh, I’m sure we’ll end up owing, the only question is how much.

Home again it was time prepare lunch.  This one we could handle.  I fired up the grill and prepared a bunch of boneless pork ribs.  Ms Barbara added some spanish rice and vegtables to the mix and we had one delicious lunch.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It was another easy going day that we absolutely enjoyed together.  We accomplished what we set out to do.  That’s good enough for us.
