Till We Meet Again – Family Time

Travel Day

Last night we got together as a family – my sister and her husband, mom, and Barbara and myself.  A farewell dinner before we hit the road.  Since I forgot my camera I grabbed some pictures from the web of the restaurant we went to.  It is the Log Cabin in Wellsboro.  What a fantastic place and what a delicious meal.  Thanks sis.

I’ve learned never to say goodbye anymore but rather till we meet again.  It was, indeed, a bitter sweet moment.  On one hand there was a definite tinge of sadness in my heart since we probably will not see one another for one to two years.  On the other hand for Barbara and myself there was also a sense of anticipation since we were going back on the road to discover and see new places and people.  That’s the ying and yang of full time RV life.

Yes, we’re back on the road again.  We packed up this morning and disconnected from the mother ship with a light rain falling.  We understand we missed the worse of it since a short time after we left the heavens opened up.

What a funny route today.  We went north to New York, then west back into Pennsylvania.  I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever get to drive on a flat, level road again.  Once again we were climbing the mountains.  Barbara saw a sign at one point that said Highest Elevation 2080 feet.  I believe it.  Yet, Graybeard still managed a respectable 6.2 mpg.

We were headed to the first of our two boondocking stops, this one at the Presque Isle Downs Casino parking lot (new spot on the map link).

The lot here is huge, mostly empty and quite peaceful.  There is some road nose but I’ve learned to sleep through just abut anything.  It is also easy to access from Route 90.  So it is a winner all the way around.  Especially since parking here is free!

Here we are, home for the night.  Shades in the front windows to keep out the heat.  We’re level enough to run our fridge without an issue.  There is a beautiful breezed blowing across the parking lot.

The only issue right now is that there is a major fire somewhere upwind of the parking lot and we are covered with a blanket of thick smoke.  Hopefully, it will be out shortly.  We heard fire engines about 30 minutes ago so I’m sure things will clear up in a little bit.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We’re excited about what new and wonderful places and people are waiting for us around the next corner.  It feels good to be back on the road and letting the wheels roll.  Someone asked How long do you want to keep this up?  I’d love to do it till I’m 85!  But I’m not going to look that far down the road, rather I’ll just take it day by day.    And I’ll give thanks to the good Lord for each and every day that he gives us.

Thanks for joining us again today.  We always enjoy your company and comments.  Catch you tomorrow sometime.

These are the voyages of  Graybeard and it’s two human soul mates.  Our continuing mission: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have not been before

See you on down the road!

  1. Hearing the hum of those tires is music to your ears. May try the Log Cabin restaurant when we’re at Ives Run in September. Safe travels and we’ll be checking in on you.
