Settling In
It seems odd to think that we will actually be here for the next six months. I wonder if I can actually sit still for that long. However, I guess I’m going to have to. Ms Barbara is having surgery in November and if all goes well probably again in January or February.
It all seems so odd not to be at the Escapees Park. We were looking to being with friends and making new ones while we were there. We’re going to miss our time there but such is life. As we’ve discovered this past year, seldom do things go according to plan.
So we’re settling in. We’ve made our first trip to Wally World. We picked up Chinese food from one of our favorite restaurants in the area. A bonus, we have our train! We never really feel at home unless we can hear a train on occassion. This one is toward the front of the park and across from it. Yup, you can sure hear it when it comes rumbling through with that old horn blaring for all the world to hear. We’ve already learned to tune it out and sleep right through it at night.
Ms Barbara continues to make arrangements for all the tests she needs to take prior to surgery. I’m doing the same with the VA.
I’m still making arrangements to get additional work done on Elvira. I have to find a place to get our annual maintenance done. I’ll probably make arrangements with Cummins Coach Care in Ocala.
We’ll go back to Josam and have them change the air bags and put new springs on the leveling jacks. The last couple of times I had a really hard time getting the jacks to come back up. The old springs that are on there just aren’t up to the task.
Next week we’re going to have a leak test done and the ripped slide seal on the front passenger slide will be replaced.
Sometime in the next couple of months the patio awning will be replaced as well as the slide topers.
Just before we leave next year we’ll have all the stripes repainted. The dark colors are badly checked and getting worse.
I’m doing odds and ends as necessary. I just have to keep telling myself that I don’t have to get it all done in one day.
To date I’ve replaced the articulating arm on the entrance door and repaired one lock on an outside locker. About the articulating arm, they replaced the old style that had a cable attached to it that snaked down through the door to the handle with a much simpler one. I’m sure glad they did. Putting the new one on was just a matter of measuring where each plate went, drilling a few holes and inserting self tapping screws. Of course writing about it was much easier than actually doing it. Isn’t it always the way. It’s done and that’s all that counts.
That is where we are at on The Road of Retirement. The weather has been nice. High 70’s to mid 80’s which allows us to keep the AC off and enjoy some fresh air. We have all our TV channels so we can watch our favorite shows. The park offers free secure internet so we no longer have to use our hotspot. Life is good. Indeed, God has definitely been good to us this whole year.
Thanks for checking in with us today. We always appreciate your company as well as your comments and suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, enjoy the days that God gives you.
These are the voyages of Elvira and her two intrepid travelers. Our continuing mission: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have never been before.
See you on down the road!
Sounds like your home and your bride are both getting their needed maintenance and will be in good shape in time. The weather sounds great; I love to have the windows open! Enjoy your Sunday!
