The Transformation Continues – More Changes and Additions

Thanks to all who have expressed concern about my well being.  I’ve still got the cough but not as bad.  I still tire but not as quickly.  I’m able to work outside a bit longer each day.  In so many words I believe I’m on the mend.

I received my new drill bits today.  My old set was full of missing bits of various sizes.  Usually the exact size bit that I would need at any given time.  No more.  Now I have them all and I will definitely take care of them.

FedEx also dropped off my new 8-ft fiberglass step ladder today.  I left the smaller, 6-ft step ladder with my son Paul.  The extra two feet in height of this ladder allows me to reach more places and clean the windshield and front cap easier.

The new ladder allowed me to replace the ancient porch light.  This is only a stop-gap measure since in the future I’m going to replace this light with a thirteen inch flood light.  I’m a firm believer in the more light the better on the front steps and door.

Today I also received two Tundra fire extinguishers.  I always want one on the kitchen counter and just as important I want one in the bedroom.  These two supplement the existing 2 lb fire extinguisher by the front door.  That one in the near future will be replaced with a 4 lb fire extinguisher.  The way I look at it, you can never have too many when you’re living in a motorhome.

The second and last towel rack came today.  Once again I threw the screws and anchors out that came with it and installed it using by trusty pop rivet gun.  It’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

I’m continuing to try and clean the front and get all the hundreds of bugs off.  I believe I’m going to have to turn to a commercial cleaner.  I’ve tried the dryer sheet trick and while it works fairly well help is still needed.

Day by day I continue to fix, upgrade or replace odds and ends from front to back.  The pace has slowed down considerably which means the punch list is drastically shrinking.

That was our day on The Road of Retierement.  It was another beautiful, clear sunny day.  It’s beginning to warm up considerably during the day but we both don’t feel any need to run the A/C.  We’re just taking it easy, holding hands and traveling along, singing our song.  I will confess to a real feeling of hitch itch and we both looking forward to getting on the road again.  We don’t like sitting around.

Thanks for coming along with us today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.

The Transformation Continues – Settling In and Making It Our Home

So my cold lingers on.  I’ve got a cough, a sore throat and I feel like, well, suffice to say I feel like crap.  I have no energy, no desire to move any further than my recliner.  Yet, I continue to push myself and try to accomplish at least something small every day.

IMG_5746

From the beginning I’ve had a problem with the hood that gives access to the generator.  I’ve finally got it to open on a regular basis.  The prop rod, though, that is supposed to hold the hood open got bent and now keeps getting jammed when you try to open the hood.  Solution?  Get rid of the prop rod!  It’s not like I need to get in there every day.  When I do I’ll find something to hold the hood open.

The situation was the same with the back engine access cover.  I was able, though, to straighten the prop rod on this cover so left it in place.

Inside

IMG_5751

we’ve started making Elvira  our own by putting out our unique signs and

hanging pictures Amanda has painted for us in the past

IMG_5745

as well as some she has purchased for us and

IMG_5755

IMG_5756

we’ve found places for our huge collection of stuffed animals.

Finally we can walk from front to back without tripping over bags of stuff.  Barbara has her kitchen set up.  I have a place for my computer.  We have our recliners in place.  It’s beginning to feel like home which is truly a great feeling.

We have two more major projects to complete:  installation of our new satellite antenna and the installation of our residential refrigerator.  Both are scheduled to be completed within the next two to three weeks.

We’re getting there, project by project anything is a cinch.

So another beautiful day on The Road of Retirement draws to a close.  Time now to watch Nick Wallenda walk across an active volcano.  Definitely something I would never, ever want to try.  Even if I could walk on a tightrope.  My prayers are with him and his wife.

The Transformation Continues – The Little Things

Oh my I just didn’t want to get out from under the covers this morning.  It was a rather chilly 45 degrees outside and 59 degrees inside.  Add to that I have a cold again and I wasn’t eager to move any time soon.  Once up I cranked up the heat pump and soon Elvira was all nice and warm inside.

I really didn’t have much energy or oomph to do anything today.  Yet, there were a few small items that needed attention.

For instance what do you do

IMG_5743

when you have a towel ring or

IMG_5742

TP Holder that you can’t get to stay up.  Regular screws don’t work.  Even with wall anchors it is impossible to get them to stay put.

Drum roll please.  The answer is?

IMG_5741

Pop rivet them in place.  Works like a charm every time.  Just make sure you know where you want them because getting them back down can be a real pain.  I learned this trick working on Graybeard.  I put a lot of odds and ends up this way and nothing, but nothing ever came down again!

That was about it for the day.  Other than dumping the tanks.  I also started working on a solution to the screen that is coming off by our front door.  I thought the solution would be a bit of super glue but that really didn’t work.  I believe I’ll have to take the existing Velcro down and replace it with new.  No big deal.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  I spent most of the day in my recliner with my head back and my eyes closed.  A few  more days and I should be able to shake this nasty cold.  I’ll let you know.

Thanks again for checking in with us.  We always appreciate your company and your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.

The Transformation Continues

Just another day in paradise.  Sometimes we both wonder how or what we did to deserve this wonderful life we live.  Whatever, we’ll accept each day with hearts full of gratitude for every precious minute we are given to live.

The transformation continues.

Since we arrived here our DISH service has been hit and miss.  More miss really with a lot of shows no longer in HD, the guide refuses to download, and we can no longer get all three Western arc satellites.  We found out today that our roof top antenna is the reason.  It is not toggling between satellites and is not swinging through a full arc.  One more item to replace.

On a more illuminating subject.

Today was the day to upgrade our ceiling lights to LED.  It’s really easy, I mean really easy if I can do it without an issue.  What a difference it makes in the amount and quality of light in all areas.

IMG_5734

IMG_5736

All went well until I came to the bedroom light.  My oh my someone had attempted to upgrade this light with some weird hodge-podge light that was a mess.  I’ll replace this one and then upgrade it with LED.

I also took the screens down for the ceiling fans and cleaned them today.  They were a wee bit dirty to say the least.

Some have asked Aren’t you a bit discouraged by all that has to be fixed or upgraded?  Not at all, it’s no different than what I went through with Graybeard.  For the first year I was almost always replacing something, upgrading something, or fixing something.  It’s just part of the process.  We’ll get there and when we do it will be worth all the effort.

Mid-afternoon a storm swept through to the north of us.  We didn’t get the rain or hail that others did but wow did the temperature drop.  Within thirty minutes we went from 74 degrees to 59 degrees.  It later rebounded a bit to 65 degrees but it didn’t go higher than that.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  Another day full of a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  Time now to go find some warm PJ’s since the temperature is again dropping.  We’re down to 50 degrees right now which when you are used to 80 degrees plus feels downright cold.

Thanks for checking in with us again.  We always enjoy your company and your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.
