November 4th, Tuesday – Getting Ready for Surgery; Taking Care of Business

What was that making all that racket?  Ah, the alarm going off since we needed to be up and out by 7 am.    Today I had an appointment for my pre-surgery workup at 8:30 am at Marion Community Hospital.  Rubbing the sleep out of our eyes we struggled out of bed at a most un-retired time of the morning, threw some clothes on and we were on our way.

I will say that surgery this time is a whole different experience than dealing with the VA.  I’m not knocking the care the VA provides, it has been excellent in some respects but absolutely horrible in other cases.   The process now, however,  beginning with preparation for surgery is truly first class and the model of efficiency.   They make sure you understand everything from a to z and leave nothing out.  I honestly feel so much better this time around.  I’m still nervous but that is to be expected.  Two hours later the process was finished and we were on our way home.

Once home it was time to take care of business since I doubt I’m going to be able to do much after Dec 10th.  First and foremost was an inspection of the seams between the roof, and the front and back caps.  I also wanted to check the caulking around all the vents and other items going thru the roof.   There were a few areas that needed to be re-caulked but nothing really bad.  I also needed to repair the solar panels that were staring to come apart at the corners.  A bit of Gorilla glue will hold them together until I decide what I’m going to do in terms of solar in the future.  With those projects out of the way I turned my attention to reorganizing the folders and files on my computer.

While I was doing all this Barbara was putting together a delicious mid-day pot roast dinner.  She also made some peas and bow tie noodles.  Oh, I almost forgot the brown gravy.  It was in my own immoral words, yummy and tummy filling!

Time now for Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.  It is really nice being able to watch two of the TV shows we really enjoy.  We’re getting to the point that we’re almost ready to take TV for granted.  But I know that when we do this crazy Dish setup will do something to pull the rug out from under us.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It was a great day but not the kind of day I really enjoy.  I enjoy being on the go, sightseeing and discovering new places.  I just have to be patient because I know those days will come again in the future.

Thanks again for joining us.  Have a question?  A suggestion?  A comment?  Just let us know.  For now I’m going to say goodnight but before going something for all of us to think upon:

As always,  if you are coming to the end of your day with concerns and worries, let me suggest that you turn them over to God.  After all, He is going to be up all night so why not let him handle them for you.

Time now for our evening prayers and eventually some shut-eye.  Till tomorrow.

November 3rd, Monday -Starting the next 35 years!

Now we move on to the next 35 years.  Given the joy, and wonder, and love, and challenges met and conquered together in the first 35 years we are really looking forward to the future in front of us.  Excited?  We sure are!

We awoke to a warm and overcast morning with showers off and on.  All I really remember is that I just didn’t want to get up.  No reason why.  I slept well the night before.  Yet, I was moving slow, real slow this morning.

We spent the morning getting together clothes and presents and other things we are going to need for our visit at Christmas time at my sister’s home in Wellsboro .  Believe it or not it is cheaper to ship everything there then try to take it with us on the plane.  Thus, we packed everything up and trundled off to the post office and sent it all on its way.

Next stop was good old Wally World for a few necessary odds and ends.  I needed some Gorilla Glue and clear tape.  We also needed a few gallons of spring water which we use to make our coffee in the morning.

That accomplished we decided it was time for a quick stop at our favorite Chinese Restaurant.  They are few and far between in this area so we are glad we found this one which comes highly rated.

Back home it was time for me to figure out how use my Endoscope.  I’ve had it for a bit now but never been able to get it to show any kind of image on my phone.  Well, as my daughter Amanda has preached to me over and over again, Dad take the time to read the instructions.  Sure enough when I did bingo it was working like a charm.

Finished with that I next decided to check out Boondockers Welcome.  This is an organization much like Harvest Hosts that provides those of us on the road with free places to stay for a night or more.  I plugged in a couple of places where we are likely to be on Tour America 2019 and needing overnight stops and discovered a number of places available.  I have, therefore, decided to become a member next year.

That concludes our day on The Road of Retirement.  We had a good day and were able to accomplish quite a bit.  We’ve settled into a nice comfortable routine but are looking forward to getting back on the road.  I for one like to be on the move.  Sitting still for any length of time but eventually I want to get going again.  After all that is why my house has wheels underneath it.

We hope you also had a great day.   If not don’t forget God is going to give you a brand new day tomorrow.  I’m off now but before I go a thought for all of us to ponder:

December 2nd, Sunday – 35 Years of Love, Hugs, Tears, Challenges, Memories, And So Much More – On to the next Thirty Five!

They said it would never last, yet, here we are.  Our thirty-fifth wedding anniversary.  Thirty five years later still traveling together, hand in hand, side by side, always singing our song.  I once was told that the key to a successful marriage among many things is to marry your best friend.  How true that is.  We were friends in the beginning and remain friends still and will always be.  There is no one else I want to continue to travel through life with then my sweetheart who has always been at my side.  For me she has been my light, my life, my love.  Barbara will tell you that I am also her light, her life, her love.  We are now looking forward to another thirty-five years if that is the number of years the good Lord gives us to still live.  Whatever the years, though, we will always remain at one’s side.

Such an occasion demanded a special celebration.  We treated each other to a special meal at a restaurant we passed time and time again on the way home from church.

Among the many items on the menu the one we were really interested in was a German dish.  That dish was authentic Wiener Schnitzel with Red Cabbage and Spätzle.  As I often

will say about my breakfast, it was yummy and tummy filling.  We would go back again.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We traveled it together, side by side, hand in hand, singing our song.  Thanks once again for joining us.  If you haven’t already today find your significant other and give them a big hug and tell them how much you love them.

Time now for the Garth Brooks concert in surround sound.  Oh this Dish setup may be a big pain at times but tonight it is worth every penny we paid for it.  Before I go something for each of us to think upon:

December 1st, Saturday – The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men

We awoke this morning to reasonable temperatures but with the sound of rain on the roof.  It didn’t last long, though, no more than an hour.  The weather report was for clearing skies with a nice day in store.  Sure.

Breakfast was quick and simple.  An omelette with a sausage patty on an onion roll.  Yummy and tummy filling.  Some coffee on the side and I was good to go.

Since the day was supposed to be a nice one I was off to the RV store to get a couple of tubes of caulking so I could do the windows.  Remember that promise by the weather man for a nice day?  I got home just in time for the skies to open up and the rains to come down.  It must be nice to have a job where right or wrong you still get paid.

I then did the next best thing I could think of, I opened up a chair under the awning and waited to see if anyone would join me.  Well, I didn’t have to wait long.  First Richard from next door came to join me.  Then Tom from across the way noticed the two of us and quickly came over and pulled up a chair.

We must have talked for a good couple of hours.  I can’t remember all that we talked about, RV’s of course, life on the road, the importance of family, mothers, children, the advantage of a 5th wheel, the advantage of a Class A, why we each chose what we did and so much more.  It was a delightful day just spending time with new-found friends.

Tomorrow is a big day for us.  A milestone if you will.  In honor of this day we’re going to treat ourselves to a really nice dinner out at a German restaurant that we’ve had our eye on for some time.  More tomorrow.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. It was not the day planned but who cares when it turned out so much better.  The windows will always be there.  Time with friends is much more important.  Tomorrow, maybe Monday I will get the windows caulked.

Time now to call it quits for the evening but before I go a thought for each of us to ponder upon:
