Time To Say Goodbye to The Manager Cast

Go North – Not To Alaska – But To South Carolina

Someone once said All Good Things Must End. Today was our day to say goodbye to a really great private RV park. We’ve had a good time here and made some new friends who we hope to keep in touch with.

But now it was time to get back on the road.

So we said goodbye to the chickens who provide fresh eggs.

And a hearty goodbye to the manager cast that sits right alongside the main entrance gate.

A left out of the gate and a quick right onto I-95 North.

The first sign we were looking for. But hey, what gives, no sign that says Thanks for visiting Georgia. Maybe they’re just glad you’re gone!

The trip was a mixed bag. It was obvious both by the condition of the road and the heavy traffic that we were back east. Suffice to say, we lost a total of one hour to congestion and construction. Then, when you add in two fuel stops a trip that was supposed to take just a little over three hours took almost five. A long day on the road, at least for us.

Traveling North on Routh 17, you are never far from water.

The second sign we were looking for. A quick right and we were heading

down the entrance road to our new neighborhood.

Go right young man, go right.

Our site was waiting for us.

Home sweet home for the next five days. The pad is paved and perfectly level, we have 50 amp and water, but no sewer. Furthermore, our DISH antenna has found and locked on to all three satellites. Life is good.

The view down the street. This is an older COE park but it is in good shape. The roads are paved and smooth. The sites are good size and the space between you and your neighbor is spacious. You can either have a sight with full sun, partial shade, or full shade. Your choice.

Just a stone’s throw away, out beyond the trees is the Intercoastal Waterway and just beyond that is the Atlantic Ocean.

That was our travel day on The Road of Retirement. I need a bit more time I believe to adjust to driving in traffic in this part of the country. I’ll get there. Overall, though, the trip was an easy one. Thanks to Elvira, she is an easy girl to drive. Bottom line, however, I definitely needed a nap after we arrived and I got us set up. As for now, well, the hour is late so if you’ll excuse me – Good Night.

Thanks for taking the time to read our blog.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

These are the voyages of  Elvira and her two intrepid travelers.  Our continuing mission: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have never been before.

See you on down the road!

Double Header of Sightseeing

We haven’t fallen off the face of the planet. Nor have we stopped sightseeing. The fact of the matter is my PC was tied up last night transferring a huge file to my home church in NJ. They asked me to do the pastoral prayer for this Sunday so after I taped it I had to sent it over. Unfortunately, we we had hit out data cap for the month on all three of our devices so it took a year and a day – actually over four hours – to get the transfer done. But it’s done and that is all that counts.

Let’s get caught up

Saint Simons Island

This was our first stop on Tuesday. Following are some of the highlights.

A diorama of the original town. The fort is to the right. A wall and a moat enclosed the entire town.

One more thing to do while on the island.

Tram Tour

The camp is currently closed to the public since the crew tasked with cutting up the cargo ship Golden Ray are kept in quarantine here.

We had a wonderful day but one in which there just wasn’t enough time to do all that we wanted to. The bottom line is, we could have easily spent another week in this area. There was more to see and do on both Jekyll and St. Simons Island that we just never got to. Hopefully, we’ll be back another day.

We’re starting to pack up since we’ll be on the road tomorrow. However, there was one place we wanted to pay a visit to in Darien.

Beef Brisket for Ms. Barbara.

A Blackened Shrimp platter for myself. The food was good but not really worth the price. Oh yea, it was expensive and not really within our budget but we decided that since all the locals recommended it, what the hey. Suffice to say we will not be returning here again.

How fresh is the shrimp?

Two of the shrimp boats are docked immediately behind the restaurant and the rest of the fleet is just a short trip down the river.

So that is what we have been up to on The Road of Retirement. We have had a fantastic time in this area and we’re glad we stopped here. The RV park was first class and comfortable. The sightseeing has been awesome. All that we’ve discovered just reminds me that the more I learn the more I want to know. Time now to pack up and make ready for the road.

Georgia Sea Turtle Center

Jekyll Mosaic

Jekyll Island Club

The Wanderer

Driftwood Beach

Cool nights that only require a light blanket. Warm afternoons cooled by a gentle sea breeze. This is our kind of weather. Add to that a beautiful blue sky and you have the perfect day for sightseeing.

So, let’s get going and we’ll give you the highlights of our day. Unfortunately, time does not permit me to go into depth regarding each stop tonight. But in the days and blogs ahead I promise I’ll get each one caught up.

Our fist stop is one that I had been looking forward to ever since I knew we were coming to this area. Yes, turtles are my heroes if you haven’t already guessed. They remind me that you can only get ahead in life when you’re ready to stick your neck out. Then to, they are a lot like full time RV’ers in that they carry their home around with them.

Moving on to our 2nd stop.

Our 3rd stop. The Jekyll Island Club

Then

Now

Our 4th stop.

Our last stop – Driftwood Beach

A bonus.

This is the 656 ft Golden Ray. The cargo ship capsized as it was leaving the Port of Brunswick, heading for Baltimore with 4,200 new cars on board. The plan to dismantle the wreck is to use a giant chain saw, slice it into eight sections and take each away on a barge. One section has already been hauled away.

Well, that was our day on The Road of Retirement. It is time now to get some rest. We’re not used to all this sightseeing. It’s been some time since we were out and about like this day in and day out. Oh, but we are loving it. We’re just a bit weary if you know what I mean. So, good night to one and good night to all.

Mom, Mom The Easter Bunny Found Me!

Easter Worship With Our Home Congregation

A Sightseeing We Will Go

Well, when I got up this morning it was down right chilly out in the living room. Now what? I knew I had left Tiny Tim on the night before. Right? Wrong! When I got up in the middle of night to turn the heater on high, I mistakenly turned it off. Now how about that. So, I turned the furnace on for a bit and just like that it was all nice and warm once again.

Now for the next surprise.

When I opened our front door this morning I discovered that the Easter Bunny had paid us a visit! There on our little step stool were Easter Eggs and chocolate candies. Now how about that!

Time now for Easter worship with our home congregation in Colts Neck, NJ.

Pastor Scott began our service with the Call to Worship.

Our first song, one of our favorites.

We had lots of wonderful, uplifting music.

Pastor Scott delivered a fantastic message. He focused on the word empty. He stated that often when we use it, it carries a negative meaning. For instance, the gas tank is empty. My wallet is empty. But in terms of the empty tomb the word becomes a positive. Empty now means Jesus is not there. He is not locked away. Death could not hold him. He is not there in the grave. The grave is empty. Then where is He? He is alive and let loose in all the world. He is here with us. Going before us. Ever with us wherever we may go. In so many words, though I may not know what is around the next corner of life, nevertheless I know that waiting there for me is my Lord and Savior. He is there to sustain, uplift, guide, comfort and see me through whatever I may face. Amen.

Our closing song.

The Easter Sanctuary.

Worship over it was time to go sightseeing again. We packed a lunch for later and off we went. I’ll give you just a hint tonight of where we went. Unfortunately, I can’t go into full details since I have a project for church I need to complete. But here in brief is where we went.

Our first stop.

Our second stop.

I’ll have more about these two historical sights and a bit about the history of Darien, GA in the next few blogs.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement. We’re home resting our weary knees right now but planning to do even more tomorrow. Oh did we walk today. It felt good, but it was proof positive that we are definitely out of shape. Of course the only way to get in shape is to do more of the same, more sightseeing and more walking. Which is exactly what we plan to do. First, though, a good night’s sleep.
