57 – thinking positive

February 2, 2021

Temperature Bushnell, Florida 54 Degrees – Billings, Montana 60 Degrees!

Short and Sweet

I’ll be honest, this not knowing is going to drive me crazy.  Are we going to be able to leave on time?  Or will I have to start cancelling reservations and changing things all around.  It is eating me up.  I’ve sat here long enough, too long as far as I’m concerned.  I want, no make that need, to be back on the road.  I didn’t buy a home with wheels on its bottom just to let it sit in one spot for months on end.  Next winter, four months maximum and no more.   Get me out of here!

As you can see above we’re finally back to two working windshield wipers.  What a journey it has been.  Who would have ever thought wanting to fix the windshield washer on both sides would have ever turned into such a big production.   I’ll think twice if in the future I say something again like I can fix that, I mean how hard can it be.

Still trying to get my first vaccine.  The one facility that was making appointments has stopped doing so because it cannot get any new shipments of the vaccine for the next several weeks.  Someone has really dropped the ball on this whole roll out.

Talk about the weather being cold and windy, why even Ms. Naughty is nowhere to be found.  Come on now, who would want to stand around in this weather in a summer outfit.  I’ll keep looking but I’m sure she is not going to be out and about for the next several days.

On a down note, we just received word that the UK form of COVID has now reached our county here in Florida.  Time to roll up the welcome mat and hunker inside both because of the weather and the virus.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  Thanks for letting me vent in the beginning.  I know I have nothing to really complain about.  I’m just frustrated.  And as my DW will tell you I also don’t have a whole lot of patience.  Time for me to stop, smell the roses, and count my blessings once again.

Thanks for taking the time to read our blog.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

Temperature 46 Degrees – No, That Is Not A Typo

Round Robin of Doctor Visits

With all due respect to those in the north who have some really frigd temperatures and lots of snow – it is cold here in Florida.  This morning the temperature started out at 59 degrees and fell like a rock throughout the day.  Tonight, as I write this blog we’re at 46 degrees and going even lower.  OK, we don’t have snow but this is ridiculous for Florida.

The first appointment of the morning was mine.  I had a 9:15 am appoinntment with Dr. Hamoui at Shoreline Urocare to discuss the results of my prostate biopsy.  I’ve been to this doctor in the past and have great respect for him.  He is a straight-shooter with a great bed-side manner.  This is his preliminary assessment:

there is cause for concern but it is not as bad as I thought

we could let things go until next December if necessary but he would not recommend it

totally removal of the prostate is not possible because of past procedures I have had

that leaves me with either external beam raidation or seed implants

Which way to go?  What to do?  This Friday I’ll meet with a recommended oncologist for a consult to further discuss my options.  This is definitely something I’m going to beat.  Moreover, I’m pushing hard to get this over and done with so we can be back on the road by the last week of March.

Moving on.  The next visit was at the VA Clinic in Brooksville for a hearing test and a fitting for new hearing aids.  The VA supplies new hearing aids every four years for Vet’s who qualify.  I received my first set four years ago so I’m due.

The hearing test revealed that my hearing lost is no worse.  So, that is good news.

I was then fitted for new hearing aids which I’ll receive the first week in March.

Moving on.  Time for Ms Barbara to receive her first vaccine shot.  She is now a card carrying member of the Vaccine Club.  Her second shot will be in March.  Now, if I can only get mine.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We left the house at 8 am and finally returned home at a litte over 4 pm.  We’re exhausted and cold.  Tiny Tim is now going full force and our home is finally warm and comfortable.  Make note to self, the next time you leave on a cold day remember to leave the heat on!  As we set here tonight side by side we both agree, as we’ve said before we are two of the most blessed and fortunate people on the face of the planet.

Thanks for taking the time to read our blog.  We always appreciate your company, your comments, and your suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.

Worship At Our Home Church In Colts Neck

Wood Working Project – Sort Of

Naughty Has Moved Again

The picture above is the view this morning out of my living room window.  Such a beautiful clear blue sky without a cloud in sight.  The temperature was moderate but the winds were strong and would remain so throughout the day.  Just another wonderful day in Paradise.  Yet, change is in the air.  Beginning tomorrow we are going to have several chilly days with morning temperatures in the mid to low 30’s.  So be it.

Since it was Sunday morning. . .

IMG_3629

we began our day with worship at our home church in Colts Neck, NJ.

I learned something new today, that being:  Thomas A. Dorsey was an American musician, composer, and Christian evangelist influential in the development of early blues and 20th-century gospel music. He penned 3,000 songs, a third of them gospel, including “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” and “Peace in the Valley”.

I really don’t know how they get the whole choir, each in their own home, to meld together as a whole.  I do know, though, that the result is absolutely beautiful.

IMG_3639

We heard from one of our missionaries serving in Central Asia.  She never actually stated where she was, just the area.  Perhaps she is not allowed to say.  She has been working there now for over eight years.

IMG_3643

Pastor’s message came from Hebrews 11:1-16.  He talked about how our whole life is a journey.  A journey that will not be completed in this lifetime.  He went on to say that we are as it were stuck in the middle where life is not always easy.  He went on to say that rather than dwell on the present we are to look forward to what will be.  We are called to put on our traveling shoes and keep on going in obedience to God’s call on our life. He ended by stressing that though along the way there may be times of uncertainty nevertheless we can count on God to guide, to support and to see us through.

We ended with this song.

What a perfect way for us to begin yet another new week.

Worship over it was time for a wood working project, sort of . . .

IMG_3669

Some time back the bottom had fallen out of my dining room chair.  OK, I really stuffed all kinds of odds and ends in there.  And since the original bottom was only a thin piece of cardboard held on by staples it was bound sooner or later to let go.  What was needed was a proper plywood bottom held in with the proper screws.

IMG_3652

With plans in hand Ms Barbara and I headed over to the woodworking shop.  What’s the old saying?  Measure twice, cut once.

IMG_3653

So I measured, then measured again. . .

Then I cut.

IMG_3671

Once back home I put the new bottom on.  I can guarantee you nothing is going to fall out this time!

As for Ms. Naughty. . .

IMG_3668

She is in the kitchen today.  There was a bowl and spoon in front of her when she was first set up but the wind blew them away!

Then there was this. . .

Right There

Ms Barbara wanted to see if she could find our resident alligator.  Yup, that’s him, right where the arrow is pointing.  I have to remember to bring my up close lens when we go on adventures like this.  I really didn’t want to get any closer today than what I was.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It was another great day from beginning to end.  It’s nice here.  Too nice.  If I stay much longer I’ll never want to leave.  I have to get back on the road.  That’s our life.  That’s where we love to be.  Can you sense I’m getting anxious?  Oh, I can’t wait till our wheels are humming down the highway again.

Temperature 71 Degrees

Naughty Has Moved Again

All Jammed Up

Not much shaking today.  The temperature was reasonable and the sky was clear.  Just another great day in Paradise.

I went out bike riding and guess who I found again?

IMG_3623

They say her name is Naughty, don’t ask me why.  She is a member of The Hood which is part of the J sites where everyone knows everyone else.  It is also known as the party secton of the park and is not where you want to be if you want to get a good night’s sleep.

IMG_3617

IMG_3600

She has definitely had a few different outfits on.

Back in Horse Shoe Pavillion I found

IMG_3627

a jam session in progress.  I stayed for a bit but also kept my distance since

IMG_3625

no one in the crowd had a mask on.  I sometimes wonder what people like this are thinking.  We’ve had a few people in the park come down with COVID so it’s been here.  I’ll keep my distance thank you very much.

IMG_3622

When you can’t decide what to have for your mid day meal.

During the day Ms Barbara had cooked up a big pot of Split Pea Soup.  We had it later on in the evening and it was oh so delicious.  I absolutely love when she makes a big pot of home made soup.  They’ve all been so, so good.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We’re liking it here but we’re also ready to get back on the road.  We’re looking forward, hopefully, to a full year of new places and new discoveries.  Until then we’ll continue to make the most of each day that God gives us to live wherever that might be.  We hope you’re able to do the same.
