In Search of Spirits
Long John Silvers
President Lincoln – in Heavy Metal
How hot is it? Well, I went to push myself up from sitting on the ground, I put my hand on the ground and I thought I was going to burn the palm of my hand. Friends, that is hot if you ask me.
Today we were going stir crazy. Sitting around day after day is not our style. We had one place we wanted to go visit but it was outdoors and the thought of walking around in 100 plus heat in the desert was not too appealing.
But we had to get out so what to do? Well, why not go in search of spirits!
This, of course, was the spirits we were in search of. Barbara did a bit of research on the internet and discovered a liquor store in Belen that carried what I was looking for.
For the lady of the house we also picked up some of her favorite wine.
Time now for lunch and we had discovered that one of my favorite restaurants was also in Belen.
A double header – both Long John Silver’s and A&W Root Beer!
They had a nice outside eating area. We watched and as soon as someone would get up they would come out and sanitize the table. Doesn’t my lady look good in a mask?
Speaking of wearing a mask, notice the sign – Masks are required. They mean business as we watched someone without one asked to leave as soon as they entered.
Lunch is served. Three crisp pieces of fish with a side of Wisconsin Cheese Curds. Absolutely delicious.
Here is where I discovered
President Lincoln in heavy metal. To be more exact it is a 2003 Lincoln that has been extensively modified.
I’m sure it is not for everyone, not even me. But it is unique. It is definitely red. Someone has really tweaked it and done so in fine fashion. And it makes a statement that’s for sure.
We had one last stop to make.
Letters, postcards, and packages are now on their way.
A final note. I really felt safe here in New Mexico. Everyone is required to wear a mask and 99% of people do. Yet, on the news today New Mexico announced they are now shutting down again. COVID-19 cases are spiraling out of control so they decided to do what needed to be done immediately. I can’t help but wonder how and will we ever get this monster under control. With our country’s leader pretending it doesn’t exist is not going to make it go away that is for sure. We need someone to take charge and face this menace head on with courage and resolve. We need a true leader.
That was our day on The Road of Retirement. It was good to get out and about for a few hours. There’s nowhere else we can really go around here because everything is again shut down. So, we’ll play marathon rounds of Mexican Train and hunker down inside Elvira and keep cool. No matter what we’ll take each day as it comes and continue hand in hand to travel along singing our song.
Thanks for stopping by today. We always enjoy your company and appreciate your comments. Catch you tomorrow.
These are the voyages of Elvira and it’s two intrepid travelers. Our continuing mission: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have never been before.
See you on down the road!
That is just too hot! I always loved Long John Silver but we don’t have any close by. Miss them. Be careful with this virus.
