Building Boom
Our community is in the midst of a building boom. Today, the first of four future houses came in. This one is 16 feet wide and 65 feet long. They will set it beginning next Monday. It normally takes a week to set it on piers, level it, anchor it and then hook up all the utilities. Thirty days later they come back and make any necessary adjustments once the house has had a chance to settle.
In addition to new homes, existing homes are selling like there is no tomorrow. The average time a home is on the market is usually less than two weeks. Developed and undeveloped lots are also bringing top dollar.
The one thing we’re fighting right now is the attempt by a number of corporations to buy up property and homes so that they can create new Airbnb locations. We’ve been working with our lawyers and we have successfully taken steps to halt them in their tracks. We all agree that we do not want our development turned into just another tourist destination.
As for me, well, I just have too much time on my hands. For instance,

I decided that I really don’t like the black shutters on our house. Hey, everyone in the neighborhood has black shutters. In addition, they just lack character. Put another way, they are flat out boring.

So, today I started taking them down and giving each a coat of primer in preparation for a color change. We’re thinking of going green. Don’t ask me why but we seem to be in a green mood as of late. Then again, maybe we’ll change our minds and go with something really bold. Time will tell.
So, that is where we are right now on The Road of Retirement. We’re enjoying life to the fullest and making the most of every minute of every day.
Thanks again for stopping by today We always appreciate your company, and your comments and suggestions. Keep safe, keep healthy, live to the fullest the days that God gives you.
Our continuing mission remains the same: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have not been before
That is great your community is doing so well. The new build looks really nice. I was aware of the Airbnb issue from Clark Howard (clark.com). People have called in and asked about buying property in Florida. They want to enjoy it some of the time or plan to retire there, but they also want to rent it out – like on Airbnb – to help pay for it. Clark always tells them that the HOAs are setting up rules to prevent this. So, good for you guys being proactive to protect your area. Clark has two homes, I believe. One in Atlanta, and one in Florida. I believe he has also talked about the challenge of getting home insurance in Florida. I can’t wait to see how your painted shutters turn out. I guess you guys are doing okay if you’re painting shutters! Enjoy your day!

Yes, we have a great HOA and I’m glad we chose to live in this community. Shutters, one thing is for sure the color of the shutters make it so that you can’t miss our house!

I fully support changing the color of your shutters. As you said, black shutters are SO basic!
