Worship At Our Home Church In Colts Neck

Watching and Waiting

We began our Sunday with worship at our home church, The Colts Neck Reformed Church.

Pastor Scott began the service with our call to worship.

Our first song.

Our special music was Be Thou My Vision performed by Maggie and Lynn.

That, unfortunately, is the end of pictures for tonight.  We are not in Verizon country thus uploading pictures is nigh unto impossible.

Pastor Scott’s message was from the Book of Revelation.  The first point he made that The Island of Patmos was just an obscure dot on the map in the middle of nowhere still Jesus found and came to John there.  He went on to say so with us wherever we figuratively might be – perhaps deep in depression, or uncertain of our future, or struggling financially still Jesus will find us and come to us.  He will come to us to comfort, offer hope, and strengthen us.

He then concluded his message by saving that even as the Book of Revelation ends with Jesus triumphing over all, even so today he will triumph over our current uncertain times.  He reminded us that the final word about these uncertain times has still not been written and if we hold firm in our faith in Jesus, we will triumph in the end.

A great message for difficult times.

Once worship was over we decided to run out for a few things we forgot yesterday.  That’s when we got our first taste of what is coming.  We got caught in rain so hard you were hard pressed to see the car in front of you.  It was the worse I’ve been caught in, in a long, long time.  I was so glad when we got home.

As for the situation where we call home.  Well, we’re still watching and waiting.  Thankfully, the latest track of both storms puts them well west of where we are located.  We’ll get lots of rain and no doubt some strong winds but it appears as of now that we’ll be spared the brunt of both storms.  Talking to other full time residents in the park no one seems much concerned.  So, we’ll just continue to monitor the situation.

All I ask that is everyone please keep those who are in the direct path of these two storms in your thoughts and prayers.

Another day on The Road of Retirement is in the books.  We’re safe, dry and comfortable.  What more could one ask for.  We’ll continue to take it one day at a time and take it as it comes.  Come what may we still believe in our hearts that we are two of the most blessed and fortunate people on the face of the earth.

Thanks for checking in with us today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments. We’ll keep you posted as things develop over the coming days.

These are the voyages of  Elvira and her two intrepid travelers.  Our continuing mission: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have never been before.

See you on down the road!

Visiting One Of My Favorites For Lunch

Hunkering Down and Getting Ready

Today we decided to visit an old favorite of ours for lunch.

This is The Fish River Grill which we discovered when we were in this area in May, 2019

As soon as you enter you get the vibe that this is not your standard restaurant.

Now a place with a display of turtles is number one in my book!

This place is chock full of all kinds of neat exhibits.

But the real reason you come here is for the seafood.  I started out with a crab and shrimp seafood gumbo.  It was so good I ordered a container to come home with me.

The main course was fish and chips.  It was oh so delicious.  I once again became a member of the clean plate club.  Now don’t despair, Ms. Barbara was not left out.  Far from being a sea food lover she ordered a Reuben Sandwich.  The only negative for her was the thick bread it was on.   Other than that she stated it too was delicious.

OK, it is now official we are under a tropical storm watch.  From Sunday through Wednesday they are forecasting winds between 25 to 45 mph and lots of rain.  This could, of course, change again as the storm gets closer.

With this in mind we decided now was the time to replenish and stock up the underside storage lockers.  We also brought home enough meat to fill the freezer.

We just couldn’t pass up on this mini watermelon.  The perfect comfort food for a rainy day.

When we got home I went out and put everything away that could possibly get blown away.  In case we have to make a run for it, I also made sure the tires were at the proper pressure, the covers were put away, the awnings are in and tightly stowed.  We ready for whatever might come our way.  All we can do now is sit tight and monitor the weather.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  I guess someone up there must have heard us say we were getting bored because some excitement it seems is definitely on our way.  We’re ready, though, as ready as we can be.  Time now to play some Mexican Train and watch a bunch of movies.  It will be what it will be and we’ll just go with the flow – in this case the flow of water!

Thanks for checking in with us today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments. We’ll keep you posted as things develop over the coming days.

As If We Didn’t Have Enough To Worry About

An interesting week so far.  The continuing issue is, of course, the COVID-19 virus and keeping healthy during the crisis.

Then WordPress went and changed how one can post a blog.   I have a deuce of a time both changing colors in different sections and adding pictures is no long a simple process.  As I said before it is a real pain in the neck now.

In addition since we’ve been here before we’ve been to all the main attractions in the area.  Besides which, we can’t go back and visit them if we wanted to since they are now closed.

Now comes the most interesting issue of all.  A possible hurricane.  This raises the question:  Do we run for cover now or wait until we have more information?  If we decide to run for cover the next question is:  Where do we go?  The obvious answer seems to be Go East, My Friend, Go East.

Our decision as of now is to Hold Tight Until We Have Better Information.  Of course that means counting on the Weather Service to get the forecast right.  That, quite frankly, is not something I put much faith in.  Time will tell what we do.

Enough of that.  It will be what it will be.  Now for some pictures from our visit to this area in 2019.

The Battleship Alabama.  The tour of this gave us quite a workout.

Climbing up and down decks, crawling into gun turrets.  I was left wondering how long it took for those aboard to get to know their way around.  More than once I got hopelessly lost.

The USS Drum

The forward torpedo room.

Tight quarters from one end to the other.  I mean, I even had problems swinging through the compartment doors between each section.  I don’t believe living here for several months under water would be my cup of tea.

OK, for now that is it for us on The Road of Retirement.  We’re safe as of this moment in time.  We have an emergency exit plan if we need one.  Hopefully, it will not come to that.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments. We’ll keep you posted as much as we can over the next several days.

Just Kicking Back

Well, I don’t know what I’m going to do now.  WordPress has adopted a new way of posting blogs and it is absolutely horrible.  They call it progress.  I call it a pain in the neck.  Time will tell how this all plays out.

Some of you may recognize the picture posted above.  It’s from the last time we were here in May, 2019.  We had such a wonderful time here.  There was so much to do, so much to see.  Which leaves us searching for things to do and see this time around.

We came here this time expecting to spend time with our friends, Mary and Bobby, who are Escapees managers.  However, because of COVID-19 they were not allowed by Escapees to move from where they are in Tennessee to Alabama.  An absolute big time bummer.

So for the time being we’re just hanging out,  Barbara is working on the inside and I’m working on the outside.  She is catching up on laundry and cleaning the kitchen area.

I’m working on the outside.  I washed Elvira.  I lubed the slides.  I checked and made sure all slide motor mounting bolts were tight.  I checked fluids and made sure all were at the proper level.  I rechecked the roof.  I repaired a locker push rod.  I cleaned and rearranged a number of lockers.

We’ve gone shopping a couple of times.  We’ll probably make one more trip to the grocery store before we leave.  Not that we want to since no one around here believes in wearing a mask.  More and more I’m coming to the sad conclusion that we live in a country where people really only think about themselves.  They believe in doing whatever they want and care little for those around them.  So sad that our country has come to this.

That is what we’ve been doing on The Road of Retirement.  We’re on our way to Florida and having second thoughts about that decision.  But it is what it is.  We have doctor appointments to keep.  Once they’re all done it will be goodbye Florida and Hello Arizona.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments. We’ll keep you posted as much as we can over the next several days.
