Yipee! No Leaks

It started out as such a beautiful day.  Abundant sunshine with not a cloud in the sky.  There was not even a mention of rain in the forecast.  It was also as expected extremely hot and humid.  Really, you walk out the front door of Elvira and it is as if someone threw a wool blanket over you.

Yet, we decided to take a short walk this morning.  Just up the block and back.  Tomorrow we’ll try going a bit further.  Hopefully, each day we’ll do the same.

IMG_1419

I got out the grill today because I knew it would be better if we cooked outside rather than inside Elvira.  Anything we can do to keep the temperature down inside is sure to help.

IMG_1418

On the menu today was grilled sausage.  They are one of my favorites and I always enjoy them.

While I was grilling I happened to look up and this is what I saw.

IMG_1420

Just like that the clouds had gathered overheard.  Now, normally they come and go and nothing happens.  The sky clears in a matter of minutes and we’re back to clear blue skies.

IMG_1421

Not this time.  I no more than got in the door with supper and the rain began to come down in buckets.  I mean, it poured hard and fast.  I immediately went to the bathroom to check where we had the leak the last time.  Yipee!  Not a drop of water.  I’ll keep a check on it during the next couple of weeks since there is rain in the forecast almost every day.

With rain outside we decided to stay inside and play some Mexican Train.  Imagine, we’ve been here three days now and this is the first we’ve had them out.  We must be slipping.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We’re enjoying our time here even as we did last year.  This is a beautiful place to call home, except for the weather.  Hot and humid during the summer but too cold for our liking during the winter months.   Tomorrow, I hope to give Elvira a bath.  The replacement of the patio awning is on hold until we get to Florida.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.

Worship At Our Home Church, Colts Neck Reformed Church

Getting Caught Up

This being Sunday we began the day as we always try to do, by joining in worship with our home church in Colts Neck, NJ.

IMG_1401

Pastor Scott opened worship with our call to worship.

IMG_1404

Our first song.

IMG_1405

His mom gave the children’s message this morning.

IMG_1407

Maggie played a short piece of music.  We always love to hear her play the piano.

IMG_1408

Pastor Scott gave the morning message.  The question he asked, using the Apostle Paul as an example was:  What kind of race are you running  as you live your life? He challenged us to ask and answer

As you seeking self gratification or seeking to glorify God?

Are you reaching out to others in love or turning a blind eye to the needs of those around you?

At the end of your race what will others remember of the race that your ran?

Various members of the congregation than shared their stories of faith and how faith has sustained them throughout their lives.

IMG_1413

The service then concluded with a virtual choir singing God Be With You Till We Meet Again.

Worship over it was time to get to work.

IMG_1414

Since we had been without a sewer hookup for about two weeks there was a mountain of dishes to do and loads of laundry to be washed.

I tackled the bathroom.  When I pulled the light down the last time when we had the leak all kinds of stuff left in the ceiling came raining down.  I got most of it picked up then but now it was time to really clean and get it all.  Get it all I did.  I dusted, mopped, and scrubbed until the bathroom shined.

I put the reflectix back up in the windshield since the sun would be directly on the front of Elvira for several hours each day.

IMG_1395

All in all we lucked out with this site.  During the hottest part of the day almost all of Elvira is in the shade because of that large tree on the passenger side.  That really helps to keep the temperature down inside and in turn the AC units don’t have to work as hard.

IMG_1415

Time out for lunch.  We both had a real hankering for pizza and this is only fifteen minutes from home.

IMG_1416

After lunch it was time to do a complete inventory of our down under storage.

IMG_1417

I also planned on moving my tools and our staples from side to side.  My tools went to the driver’s side and the staples came over to the passenger side.  Don’t know if this will make much of a difference in correcting the weight imbalance but I figured it couldn’t hurt.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We both feel better that things are caught up and our house is again in order.  Time now to settle back with a glass of wine and enjoy the evening.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.

Travel Day

The new mirror is on and it is time to be on our way.   Once again we were in no rush to get out since our drive time was just three hours plus.  Our kind of trip.

We took our time this morning, packed up the remainder of our stuff, disconnected water and electric, pulled the slides in, and raised the jacks and were on the road by 9:30 am.

Soon enough we saw

and we continued to roll.

Then we saw

Welcome To Alabama Sign Stock Photo, Picture And Royalty Free ...

and we knew we were almost home.

The trip was an easy one with smooth roads and no construction delays and very little traffic.  The forecast called for scattered thunderstorms but other than a brief sun shower the rain was always just in front of us.

There, unfortunately, was one major accident but it was on the other side.  It resulted in Route 10 being completely shut down with a back up of probably a good five or six miles.

Then there was our fuel stop.  We usually try to stop at a Loves Travel Stop because of the discount card we have.  Imagine our surprise when we pulled in and discovered they were completely out of gas and diesel.  Thankfully, there was a Speedway right across the street and they also we discovered accept our fuel discount card.

After our fuel stop it was a very short hop to a place we know well.

Rainbow Plantation - Summerdale, AL - RV Parks - RVPoints.com

This is our second time here and it is one of our favorite Escapees Parks.

IMG_1395

Our new home.  It is grass, reasonably level, FHU, and partially shaded.  Our DISH antenna has a clear view of the southern sky so we’re able to pull in all of the western arch satellites.

IMG_1390

IMG_1391

This is the look up and down our block.  There are a few other rigs here but not many since this is not high season.  That is fine by us.

IMG_1398

This is the green space behind our site.  We really love this park and this whole area.  We have a few favorite restaurants in the area that we’ll probably visit if they are open.  Unfortunately, other attractions we would normally visit while in this area we already know are closed.

We’re settled in.  I have the outside completely set up. What with the humidity it doesn’t take long working outside before you are drenched in sweat and a bit ripe!  So I rewarded myself with a nice, long hot shower.  Why, I even shaved.  I feel great.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  Things once again seem to be looking up.  Why, even our patio awning which has been dead for the last several days is working again.  However, its days are numbered.  We’ll either replace it here or later in Florida.  Ah yes, life is good.

Thanks for traveling with us today.  We always appreciate your company and your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.

Repairs Made, Ready to Move Out

Park Is Filling Up

Well, I tried to sleep in but no go.  I guess I just have too much on my mind.

Time to get up on the roof and caulk the vents in the area that is leaking.  But wait, were is my caulking?  Ugh, I used the last tube and forgot to replace it.  Time to visit Camping World which was a ride of about thirty minutes each way.

IMG_1386

Oh yes, while there I bought two tubes of self leveling sealer.  The first tube I used to caulk around the two vent tubes in the area that was leaking.  Yes, I used the whole tube.

IMG_1389

I’m so confident that I solved the problem I optimistically put the light back up.   Hey, either the leak has been plugged or we’re going to have to do a leak test to find it.  Either way the light needed to go back up.

On the way back from Camping World the park office called to let us know we had received a package from UPS.  Oh happy, happy, joy, joy that meant the mirror arm had arrived.

IMG_1383

It is an electric mirror which I didn’t see as much of a problem.  Cut and splice and that would be that.  Until they threw me a curve.  There are two orange wires and I’m not sure which one gets spliced to which.  For now, therefore, the mirror is up and usable but has to be adjusted manually.  But that’s OK, once adjusted it will probably never be moved again.  I’ll get the wiring diagram sometime in the future and then I’ll hook everything up.

IMG_1388

The bottom line, we’re ready to move again.  So tomorrow we will and guess who has a big smile on her face because we are.

IMG_1382

IMG_1385

Slowly but surely the park is beginning to fill up.  This is probably the first park that we’ve been in that has more sites filled than empty.  Maybe there are really a bunch of new RV’ers out there after all.

IMG_1371

Remember this from yesterday?  This is an actual road worthy (?) rig.  The owner comes every year for a 14 day stay and then he is on his way.  I would not want to be within a mile of this thing when it is out on the road.  Let’s be honest here, this is an accident waiting to happen.  This is an excellent reason why a lot of parks have a ten year old rule.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  I’m taking the half glass view of things and believing it can only get better from this point on.  We’ll start, as usual, packing up tonight and finish up tomorrow.  Our trip is another short hop so we won’t leave here until around 9:30/10 am.

Thanks for your company.  We always appreciate when you stop by and we so enjoy your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.
