Packing Up and Leaving Early

Cedar Cove TV Series — Debbie Macomber

Oh what has happened to me.  I’m absolutely hooked on this series.  So much so that we sat up until 1 am in the morning watching one episode after another.  I finally threw in the towel early am and went and got some sleep.

Cave Without a Name - Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™: Guadalupe River

Cruising around the internet last night I discovered a fascinating attraction just west of San Atonio called Cave Without A Name.  We talked about it and decided let’s go see it. Moreover, they have a basic electric/water campground associated with it for a nominal charge per night.   Therefore, we’re leaving tomorrow to go do some sightseeing.

Welcome to Texas 281 RV Park | San Antonio, Texas

Then we’ll move from there to Texas 281 RV Park where we have a pull-thru site waiting for us.

Barbara went shopping yesterday so our freezer is full as well as our refrigerator.  Our outside pantry is also well stocked.

Tire covers are off and tire pressure checked.

The air filter has been changed.  It has been on there since 2015 and once off I found it was partially clogged in the lower right corner.

The tanks will be dumped in about another 30 minutes and rinsed out.  The reflectix will come off of the front windshield and the privacy screen will be taken off.

I’ll also disconnect Wesley and Fredia along with the other water hoses and pack them away.

Tomorrow we’ll just have to disconnect the electric,  pull in the slides, store the jacks and bring Elvira back up to ride height and away we will go.

So now we’re up-to-date on what we’ve been doing on The Road of Retirement.  It really is such fun to have wheels underneath your home.  You have the freedom to move when you want and go where you want to go.  Tis a wonderful life.

Thanks for stopping by.  We always appreciate your company and your comments.  Stay safe, wash your hands and wear your mask.  Till tomorrow.

These are the voyages of  Elvira and her two intrepid travelers.  Our continuing mission: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have never been before.

See you on down the road!

DOT and A Timely Message

Miller Meat Market

I don’t know what it is but since arriving here I’ve slept like a log each and every night.  I just hope I haven’t jinxed myself by saying this for the reminder of the time we are here.  Tonight will tell.

We had a few things we wanted to do today.

20200720_134937

20200720_134932

On our way into Fort Stockton we passed these rather interesting traffic barrel creations in the front of the Department of Transportation.  Obviously, someone in the office has an imaginative and creative mind.

Ace Hardware | The Helpful Place - Ace Hardware

We went back to Ace to return the can of paint I picked up yesterday and purchase a roll of window tint.  Unfortunately, though their web site states that they have it, it was not in stock.  We’ll go to Auto Zone the next time we’re in town.

20200720_135330

This is another place the locals all talk about.  Well, we had to check it out for ourselves.

20200720_135429

They had a freezer full of fish.  We passed this time.

20200720_135748

Fresh natural beef.

20200720_135602

We purchased a few pounds of fresh, lean chop meat.  The price was in line with what you would pay at the local supermarket.

20200720_135907

We also purchased a 2 lb piece of chuck roast.  It is amazing, you make a request, they disappear into the back freezer, whack off whatever it is you want and out they come with it!  You can’t get any fresher than that.

20200720_142044

I can’t tell you how many times we’ve avoided one of these stores.  Today, we were desperate for pizza so we figured OK we’ll give them a try since there were no other pizza places in town.  We were both pleasantly surprised at how good it was.  Sure, it is not as good as NJ pizza but it wasn’t bad at all.  We both agreed we’ll keep them in mind in the future.

20200720_153421

Once we were back home we pulled out the seal-a-meal and packaged up all of our meat.  All together it didn’t even make a dent in the one corner of the freezer.  We’ll probably go back for some more meat just before we leave.

Cedar Cove (TV series) - Wikipedia

When we had finished with the meat we sat down for an afternoon marathon of Cedar Cove.  The series is based on author Debbie Macomber’s book series Cedar Cove which focuses on Municipal Court Judge Olivia Lockhart’s professional and personal life and the townsfolk surrounding her.  I don’t know how Barbara got me hooked on this series but I can’t get enough of it.  Thankfully, we have all the episodes in the series recorded.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  Once again it was a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  It is just the kind of day we like.  Absolutely no pressure and nothing really that we had to do.  I’ll take as many days like this as we can get going forward.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always enjoy your company and appreciate your comments.  Be safe out there.

A Cool and Comfortable Day

Worship At Our Home Church In Colts Neck, New Jersey

House Cleaning

Project – Shower Skylight

We’re finally below 100 degrees on a consistent basis.  We’re also back up to around 60 or 70 percent humidity.  The later we are not used to.  Overall, the day was beautiful.

Inside we finally have it figured out just how to keep Elvira cool and comfortable.  We have the two AC’s running and four fans in different hot spot locations.  Taken together as a whole even in this 90 degree heat we find the AC’s no longer have to run all day.  They will cycle on and off as needed.  The front unit maintains a temperature between 79/80 degrees and the back unit maintains a temperature between 76/77 degrees.  We’re happy, cool and comfortable.

This being Sunday we began our day with worship at our home church in Colts Neck, New Jersey.

IMG_0608

Special music today was provided by Joy on the flute and Maggie at the piano.

Pastor Scott was back from vacation and in the pulpit once more.  His message was a reminder that come what may, nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.  A strong message of hope with which to begin a new week.

Following church we did our household chores for the week.  A long time ago we came up with a division of labor that has continued to work well.  Barbara is responsible for the kitchen and the living room.  I’m responsible for the bathroom, the hallway and our bedroom.

We cleaned counters, vacuumed, and dusted.  The bathroom bowl was scrubbed and the bathroom sinks were also scrubbed.  Our home is looking nice and spiffy as of now.

IMG_0610

All of the AC vents were opened up and cleaned.  Between the two of us we also cleaned all of the filters in the return vents.

IMG_0611

The project for the day was our bathroom skylight.

IMG_0612

A couple of weeks ago because of the heat coming in through this vent I decided to attach a piece of reflectix to the piece of plastic that is attached to this inner sky light.  Bad move.  It got so hot at one point it actually warped the plastic all out of shape.

IMG_0614

We went and obtained a new piece of plastic to install.  It’s installed using double sided tape.  Well, I can get the tape on but getting the backing off for the other side of the tape – that’s a job for Barbara.

Since the only piece of plastic I could purchase was clear, I was at first going to paint it to block some of the light coming through.  However, I though better of that idea and decided instead to obtain some window tint instead.  We’ll pick that up tomorrow and then finish this project up.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  Once again, it was a great day from start to finish.  Moreover, if tonight is a repeat of last night we’ll be able to turn the AC’s off and open the windows and let the breeze blow through Elvira.  Here’s hoping.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always enjoy your company and appreciate your comments.  Be safe out there.

Today I Turned 70 – Again!

Yup, today I turned 70 – again.  You see I have this theory.  Barbara has decreed that when I turn 80 it will probably be time for me to stop driving a motorhome.  OK.  That being the case I don’t think I’ll ever turn 80.  I’ll just keep celebrating my 70th birthday year after year.  Works for me.

My sweetheart asked around regarding a great place in the area to go for a steak dinner.  This is the place several local residents recommended.

20200718_135323

The franchise started in 1996 and today it has restaurants in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas.

20200718_140329

We didn’t know if we would be able to eat in or have to take it home.  Upon arriving we found the dining room open.  Open and with a number of safety precautions in place.  First, upon entering they take your temperature.  Second, between each booth is a fiberglass partition.  Third, tables are spaced a minimum of six feet apart.  Fourth, each booth or table is sanitized after a customer leaves.  Fifth, all the staff are wearing masks.  Finally, you don’t get a menu but rather a sheet of paper which is thrown away after one use.  Given all the precautions in place we didn’t hesitate to dine in.

The place was immaculate, warm and inviting.  However, not much on the walls to take pictures of.

20200718_143659

20200718_143716

The steak and shrimp were cooked to perfection as were both sides.  This time the locals really got it right.  This was a first class restaurant with excellent service and delicious food.  Add to it a nice cold beer to wash everything down and you’ll get no complaints from me.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  My sweetheart really treated me well today and I can’t thank her enough.  It was a grand day for a guy who is holding at 70!

We hope your day was as great as ours was.  Thanks for coming by.  We always enjoy your company and appreciate your comments.  Be safe out there.
