Getting Ready and Starting To Pack Up

Worship At Our Home Church in Colts Neck, New Jersey

Same Old, Same Old

OMG It Really Rains in the Southwest

Travel day coming up on Tuesday and so I decided to begin now to get ready.  I was outside early morning before the heat came up

and removed the tire covers and made sure tire pressure was spot on.

IMG_0431

I also removed the mirror covers and packed them away.  I’ll take the privacy screen off tomorrow morning.

IMG_0433

I added a few gallons of water to our fresh water tank so that when we get to Roswell we will not have to hook up to city water.  Tomorrow night I’ll dump the tanks and close them up.  Then I’ll pack up the sewer hose and all our fresh water gear.  Slides will also come in tomorrow night.  We want to be out of here as early as possible on Tuesday so that we’re in Roswell before the real heat arrives.

Today being Sunday once back inside and after Barbara woke up

we started our day with worship at our home Church in Colts Neck, New Jersey.

IMG_0419

Pastor Debbie again led worship today.

Our opening song.

That dear friends is supposed to be a piece of bacon!  Just one of the props used today for the children’s message.

IMG_0425

Our special music today was In Christ Alone and was performed by Lyn, Len, and Maggie.

IMG_0426

Pastor Debbie delivered the morning message.  She reminded us even though at times it may not seem like it, God is always present and in our midst.  The reason, she stated, we so often miss Him is because we are often too busy trying to do everything on our own.  Using the story of Martha and Mary she pointed out how Martha was so busy with everyday chores and responsibilities she completely missed Jesus in the present.  However, Mary on the other hand sat quietly at His feet and so was able to receive from Him the nurture that she needed.  She then reminded us that amid the business of daily life we need to take time to be still so that we can sense God’s presence in our midst.  Only in this way, she went on to say,  can we receive from Him what we need each day to live with a sense of victory.

Our closing song.

Worship over it was time for, what else

more Mexican Train.  Yes, I do agree with Betty (thank you) she has a cute and sweet smile but that’s because she is cute and sweet!

IMG_0435

We mixed it up a bit today.  Barbara has been busy recording all kinds of mystery movies for times when we have nothing else to do.  Today we decided to work our way through some of them.  We have a lot more to go and that’s OK as far as we are concerned.

Then it happened.

IMG_0437

IMG_0438

The wind came up in a hurry and we had a dust storm in front of us.  Then there was a loud crack of thunder and

img_0447

the rain came down in buckets.  The temperature dropped from 104 to 86 degrees in about thirty minutes.  Then just like that it was over.  The nice part, though, was that the clouds remained.  So the remainder of the day was a bit cooler – like the mid 90’s.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It was one of those days when we had a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  We also discovered that it really does rain in these parts.  If you can call a few minutes of a burst of rain real rain.  OK, time to get back to our game of Mexican Train, oh how the tables have turned.  Once again I’m coming out on top despite a couple of glasses of wine!

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always enjoy your company and appreciate your comments.  Be safe out there.

Spirits and Trains

I probably sound like a broken record, but it is a bit warm around these parts.

20200710_161509

The bottom number is the temperature outside in the shade.  The middle number is the temperature inside Elvira.

Moreover, we still haven’t hit the high for the week.  Sometime this weekend we are supposed to reach 106 or better.  Be that as it may we are quite comfortable inside Elvira.  Yet, open the door and stick your head out and it’s like the life is sucked out of you.

Nevertheless, early this morning I was able to get up on the roof for the monthly inspection.  I basically found most things in order, however, there is one mounting plate that is going to need a little extra caulk before we get to wetter climates.  I’ll probably take care of this once we are in Texas and the temperatures get down to a more reasonable 90 something degrees during the day.

So what does one do when the temperature is this hot?

20200710_161449

You hunker down inside and hold a Spirits and Train Party!  What else.  We poured ourselves a couple of glasses of wine and played a marathon round of Mexican Train.

20200710_171114

Almost forget, no party would be complete without some munchies.  Ah yes, there are still some chips left in the bag for tomorrow.

I wish I could say I absolutely dominated today but the truth is I got trounced.  Last week I couldn’t loose a round.  This week, today in particular, the dominoes refused to fall my way.  What’s that line from the Gambler?  You have to know when to hold them and you have to know when to fold them.  Today was my day to fold.

That was the net of our day on The Road of Retirement.  For all intents and purposes we are in hold mode.  Living in this COVID-19 time period is a clear reminder once again that the situation is the boss.  There’s no denying that although we can plan all we want for places we want to go and create lists of things we want to do, the future is only an illusion.   When will it all end?  I’m not too optimistic about it ending any time soon.  Especially since so many people are in complete denial that there is even a pandemic and that it is getting more serious by the minute.  As for the two of us we will continue to live in our bubble we call The Republic of Newmar and  and take the necessary steps to keep healthy.  We’ll also continue to remind ourselves of the fact that despite current circumstances we continue to be two of the most blessed and fortunate people in the world.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always enjoy your company and appreciate your comments.  Be safe out there.

In Search of Spirits

Long John Silvers

President Lincoln – in Heavy Metal

How hot is it?  Well, I went to push myself up from sitting on the ground, I put my hand on the ground and I thought I was going to burn the palm of my hand.  Friends, that is hot if you ask me.

Today we were going stir crazy.  Sitting around day after day is not our style.  We had one place we wanted to go visit but it was outdoors and the thought of walking around in 100 plus heat in the desert was not too appealing.

But we had to get out so what to do?  Well, why not go in search of spirits!

Samuel Adams Boston Lager | Binny's Beverage Depot

This, of course, was the spirits we were in search of.  Barbara did a bit of research on the internet and discovered a liquor store in Belen that carried what I was looking for.

Almaden Cabernet Sauvignon (5L) | Marketview Liquor

For the lady of the house we also picked up some of her favorite wine.

Time now for lunch and we had discovered that one of my favorite restaurants was also in Belen.

A double header – both Long John Silver’s and A&W Root Beer!

20200709_131807

They had a nice outside eating area.  We watched and as soon as someone would get up they would come out and sanitize the table.  Doesn’t my lady look good in a mask?

20200709_131820

Speaking of wearing a mask, notice the sign – Masks are required.  They mean business as we watched someone without one asked to leave as soon as they entered.

20200709_131959

Lunch is served.  Three crisp pieces of fish with a side of Wisconsin Cheese Curds.  Absolutely delicious.

Here is where I discovered

20200709_131136

President Lincoln in heavy metal.  To be more exact it is a 2003 Lincoln that has been extensively modified.

I’m sure it is not for everyone, not even me.  But it is unique.  It is definitely red.  Someone has really tweaked it and done so in fine fashion.  And it makes a statement that’s for sure.

We had one last stop to make.

20200709_141557

Letters, postcards, and packages are now on their way.

A final note.  I really felt safe here in New Mexico.  Everyone is required to wear a mask and 99% of people do.  Yet, on the news today New Mexico announced they are now shutting down again.  COVID-19 cases are spiraling out of control so they decided to do what needed to be done immediately.  I can’t help but wonder how and will we ever get this monster under control.  With our country’s leader pretending it doesn’t exist is not going to make it go away that is for sure.  We need someone to take charge and face this menace head on with courage and resolve.  We need a true leader.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It was good to get out and about for a few hours.  There’s nowhere else we can really go around here because everything is again shut down.  So, we’ll play marathon rounds of Mexican Train and hunker down inside Elvira and keep cool.  No matter what we’ll take each day as it comes and continue hand in hand to travel along singing our song.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always enjoy your company and appreciate your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.

Trying To Stay Cool

Washer/Dryer Fix

Yes, we’re still here.  Yes, it is hot.  However, as someone else has said it is a dry heat.  Dry or not it is still hot.  Day and Night.  Today we hit 102 degrees.  Late night and early mornings it seldom goes below 80 degrees.  Our AC’s are going full blast and doing a remarkable job at keeping us comfortable and cool.

Other than that not much else is going on.  We had one minor issue we had to attend to today.  We both noticed the top of our washer/dryer was full of lint.  What?  It is vented to the outside.  A little investigation revealed that the dryer flex tube had come off the back of the washer/dryer and it was venting directly into the closet where it is located.  Simple to fix, right?  Not really.  You have a little trap door that you have to reach through to access the back of the washer/dryer.  Then you have to reach all the way across and down to where the flex tube is supposed to be hooked on to the back of the washer/dryer.  I finally was able to get it back on – at least for now.

I was going, at first, to cut a larger access hole in the wall alongside the washer/dryer so I could get more of  myself into the back and properly attach the flex hose.  However, it doesn’t look like that is going to work.  The wall I would have to cut through is a double wall.  Moreover, no matter how big the opening I only have a very limited amount of space behind the washer/dryer to work in.  Time to sit back and come up with another plan of attack.

Other than that we didn’t do much of anything today.  We played Mexican Train, Barbara did some laundry and I played around again with our route plan for 2021.

Time to call it a day now on The Road of Retirement.  We made the most of the day given to us and we’re grateful for every minute of it.  Come tomorrow we’ll see what we can find to do.  Why, we may even try to do some sightseeing despite the heat.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We always enjoy your company and appreciate your comments.  Catch you tomorrow.
