Worship At Our Home Church In Colts Neck, NJ

Crock Pot Lift Off

Which Route Should We Go With – If Any At All

Today was just another one of those beautiful days.  The sun was shining bright, the sky was clear but oh those winds again.  They were once again around 25/30 with much higher gusts.  When Elvira actually began rocking we decided it was time again to bring the satellite dish down.  The problem is the winds are coming from the SW which is the direction the dish is pointed.  That means the dish itself gets slammed full force with each gust.  Better safe than sorry.

We began the morning with worship at our home church in Colts Neck, NJ

IMG_8300

Today was children’s Sunday.  This is a picture of the kids from one class that was taken sometime last year.

From the shelter of their own homes each was given a part to recite.  Each was taped and then played today in the proper order.

Each member of the Church School was also given a time to show the memory work and coloring work that they had done during the past weeks at home.

Pastor Debbie then shared a message from God’s Word.  She reminded us that the Bible is in essence a series of stories regarding God and Christ.  Stories of their encounter with people everywhere.  She then reminded us that each of us also has our own story of our encounter with Christ.  Furthermore, she reminded us that our story is one we need to share with all everywhere.  The story of how God in Christ found us, saved and redeemed us, and filled us with new life.  A good message to begin the week with.

IMG_8304

After the message we had a time of communion.  We both appreciate the opportunity to join together with our church family in this way.

IMG_8305

Pastor Scott then commissioned and charged us with the responsibility of going forth to tell the world of Jesus and His Love and our story of how that love has impacted our own lives.

Barbara decided after worship that today was crock pot day.  This is the first time she has used it.  What did she decide to make?  Chili!  It didn’t come out all that bad but since she followed their recipe it wasn’t really her chili.  She admitted that in the future she will follow her own instincts and go with what she has done in the past.  Me?  I’ll eat it until it is all gone.  After all it is chili and I love chili.

I decided to play around a bit with possible routes for 2021.

IMG_8309

Route One going up the East coast.

IMG_8311

Route Two going up the East coast.  Please, if anyone has suggestions for historical sights, attractions, roadside attractions or whatever they believe would be worth stopping to see let us know.  We’re always open to suggestions.  These routes are by no means cast in stone.

Once we leave PA we go over into Ohio and we’ll hook up with my son Paul and his wife, and we’ll do some travelling together.  Together we’ll go up through Michigan, up and over the top, and down into Wisconsin.  I believe at that point he’ll start moving back home to Ohio while we’ll begin the trek out west.

IMG_8313

This was the first route I came up with.  The problem with this, however, is it puts us in Yellowstone in late August or early September.  Not a good idea in terms of the weather I discovered.

IMG_8314

This is my next attempt at some sort of a route that will get us back to Yuma and then Congress for the winter.  Once again, if anyone has suggestions for historical sights, attractions, roadside attractions or whatever they believe would be worth stopping to see let us know.  We’re always open to suggestions.  These routes are by no means cast in stone.

There you have, our day on The Road of Retirement.  A good day again all the way around.  We have one more day of really pleasant temperatures and we intend to take advantage of them by taking a good old fashioned road trip on Route 66.  More about that tomorrow night.  Until then, time for me to say goodnight.

AMEN.

Thanks for your company today. We always appreciate having you with us and, likewise, we always appreciate your comments.  Until tomorrow.

These are the voyages of  Elvira and it’s two intrepid travelers.  Our continuing mission: to explore as many new states as possible, to seek out new acquaintances and make new friends, to boldly go where we have never been before.

See you on down the road!

When You Get Bored

Go East, You Two, Go East

What an absolutely delightful day.  The temperature never, not even once, got above 80 degrees.  But the wind, now that was another thing.  We were listening to Sirus on Dish and we kept loosing the signal.  What?  I walked outside and the wind was blowing directly at the receiver and it was rocking back and forth like a rocking horse.  Time to bring it down until the wind calmed down.  Yes, we were able to get it up in time for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!

IMG_8269

This is what you do when you get really bored.  You wax your shower.  I’m so glad I did because I found a yellow layer of something along the bottom of each wall.  However, with a little bit of elbow grease and an hour of my time it’s all gone now and the entire shower sparkles like a diamond ring.

So Barbara said we need to go East.  We need to go back to family and friends before we move out to the southwest.  Guess where we are going next year?  You guessed it.  We are going up the eastern seaboard to Pennsylvania and then we’ll head west along the top of the country and then south back home to the southwest for winter.  Once there, well, we will probably look for a place to establish as a home base.

What do I think of this plan?  I agree we do need to see family and friends.  No argument there and I’m anxious to see everyone.  I’m not, however, looking forward to the traffic, congestion, terrible roads and rude drivers on the East coast.  It is what it is.  I’ll just have to suck it up for six months or so.

I’ve already started work on our 2021 travel route so that we have a rough idea of where we will be when.   This will allow me to search for respectable places to call home and allow me to make the necessary reservations in plenty of time.

That was the sum total of our day on The Road of Retirement.  We have two more major sightseeing trips planned before we leave here.  The one will be next Monday, and the second will be on Wednesday.  Then we start putting things away in anticipation of getting back on the road shortly after that. Oh, happy, happy, joy, joy!

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could be like our children – color blind.

A Different Kind Of Day

Picking Up Odds and Ends

This was a most unusual day in terms of the weather.  The day started overcast and remained that way.  The wind was 25/30 mph with higher gusts.  It would rain like cats and dogs for two or three minutes and then stop.  It did that three or four times during the day.  The temperature was a comfortable 85 degrees which meant we could turn off the AC and open the windows.  It was so nice to feel the breeze blowing through Elvira.  The next four days they say should be like this which is fine by us.

There are generally two kinds of residents at this park.  You have the overnighters and then you have the more permanent residents.  We, of course don’t fit in either category so I don’t know what you could call us.  How about just biding our time.  But I digress.

All of the sites are well taken care of and one in particular has a bit of decorations put out.

If only they had put a turtle out I would give it a solid 10 points but missing that I can only give it a 9.

Safeway at 3125 Stockton Hill Rd Kingman, AZ | Weekly Ad, Grocery ...

We needed to go foraging for milk and bread so it was off to Safeway in the afternoon.  This is one supermarket that always seems to have well stocked shelves and a fully stocked meat section.

Tractor Supply Co., Kingman, AZ 86401

Next, we went across the street to Tractor Supply.  Believe it or not this is where they have that wonderful root beer and cream soda that I have developed a real thirst for.  Oh, I also needed an inlet washer filter for my pressure regulator setup.

One last stop – Five Guys.  We absolutely love their burgers and fries.  I mean, why go home and cook when on your way home is one of your favorite restaurants.  What made it even better is that they had an outdoor patio just around the corner.  Perfect.

There you have it, our Friday on The Road of Retirement.  It felt good to just get out and about for even an hour or so.  We’re looking forward to the cooler days coming in the next four days.  We should be able to forgo the AC and just keep the windows open.  Yipee!  Like always we continue to travel along, hand in hand, singing our song.

In closing.

A Not Very Exciting, Very Normal, Really Hot Day In Kingman

Today and the days ahead we don’t have a whole lot planned.  Such a shame since these are going to be the coolest days of this month.  Its not until Monday that we will be out and about again.  We’re planning on a multi-town road trip on one of the longest still intact sections of Route 66.  It ought to be a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to it.

When we first arrived here we thought that there were no mountains around us.  How wrong we were.  We were just in such a position that they weren’t visible.  But we found them.  And here they are.

IMG_8180

IMG_8188

I never tire of looking at them.  I always find them so beautiful and so majestic.  I often wonder how can I get to the top of some of them.  What a view one would have from way up there.  I can tell you this, growing up in New Jersey I never saw mountains like this.

Triva time regarding the city of Kingman.

The city of Kingman was named for Lewis Kingman, who surveyed along the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad’s right-of-way between Needles, Calif., and Albuquerque, N.M. Lewis Kingman supervised the building of the railroad from Winslow, Ariz. to Beale’s Springs, which is near the present location of the town of Kingman.

Located in a natural basin, surrounded by basaltic hills it is ironic that Kingman was not established as a mining town but as a railroad town.

What is the elevation of Kingman? 3,333 feet.

Ok, you’re right I’m reaching for stuff to write.  So we’ll call it at this point in time.

Our day has come to an end on The Road of Retirement.  The temperature is finally coming down into the low 90’s now that the sun has gone down.  Time to go play some Mexican Train.

Then there was this.  1968, four months after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and the country was reeling from months of  race riots.  Over against those nightly images there was this, a picture that never grows old.

Will you be my neighbor.
