Celebrating Our Friends 52nd Wedding Anniversary

What a great day to be alive!  Could have used that lost hour of sleep though.  But it is what it is so we made the best of it.  Anyway, we’ll get that hour back sometime later in the year, at least I hope so!

Off to worship at the First Presbyterian Church.  We missed last week because we had to work so it was good to get back.  Pastor Ron had a great message as always.  Steve was on his game with the music.  We’re going to miss our Sunday mornings here when we leave the end of March.  What’s worse is that we will not be back here for almost two years.

Next on the day’s agenda was a trip for Aldi since our cupboards and refrigerator/freezer were getting a bit bare.  Ah but getting there did not go smooth.  Barbara insisted she knew where it was and so it did I.  Problem was, we both were thinking of different stores in different towns.  Since I was driving I went my way.  Things were a real quiet in the car for a bit!  Yes, we eventually patched things up and all is well again.

Right around the corner from Aldi was a Jersey Mike’s a favorite sandwich shop of ours.

Our favorite sandwich and the one we had today was the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak Sandwich.

Tummies full and a car full of groceries we finally headed home to put things away.  However, before we could put the cold stuff in the freezer I had to defrost it.  Not a bad chore since I do it every couple of months so the ice never really builds up too bad.  An hour later I had the freezer done and ready to receive the frozen goods we bought today.

Time now to make up for that lost hour of sleep.  In essence it was nap time for both of us.  Ah, it felt good to lay my head down for a good hour.

Nap over we headed down the road to our neighbor’s rig.  We were gathering together to celebrate Terry and Trudy’s 52nd wedding anniversary.

It was a good time with good friends that lasted for over three hours.  Finally, the bugs got to all of us and we each headed home to our respective rigs.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  It was a day filled with a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  We got down what needed to be done and we ended the day gathered together with some friends.  One can’t ask for better than that.

Thanks again for traveling along with us.  We hope you enjoyed the journey and we’ll see you again tomorrow as we head out again.

Dog Day In The Park

No lying around this morning since we were on the work schedule.  Up by 7 am, throw down a couple of cups of coffee and we were out the door.  We’ll have brunch when we get home, whenever that will be.

Today was Dogs Day At The Park.  Open to dogs of all breeds and sizes there would be

classes in obedience, a dog talent show and a guest appearance by the Sumter County K9 unit.  There was a table for not only our park but Florida parks in general.  There was a

table set up by the Humane Society of Sumter County.  They are a busy place year round.

IMG_2855

The Sumter County Sheriffs Department had two dogs with them.

They gave several demonstrations on search and find, and taking down a fugitive.

Now for some of the real stars of the morning program.

It was wags aplenty all morning long.  Here are the winners of the talent show.

Not a big turnout but an enthusiastic group with some really great dogs.  A winner all the way.

Once the program was finished and we were all cleaned up it was back to Graybeard to pick up where I had left off yesterday.  Today I was going to tackle the lockers on the port side and the first one I attacked with a spray bottle of bleach was the water closet.  I scrubbed it until I was satisfied that it was squeaky clean back to front, top to bottom.

I then moved forward and cleaned and rearranged the other three lockers on this side.  I still have a few questions as to where I’m going to put, for instance, the jack pads and the over-size mat we currently have down outside our door.  The satellite antenna and the water softener will probably be put in the car as we move from place to place.

As of now the lockers are rearranged and cleaned.  All that is left is to treat the rubber gaskets with 303 and lube the hinges and struts which I will do in the next few days.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We had a great day and enjoyed every minute of it.  Thanks for coming along with us we hope you enjoyed your trip with us.  Till tomorrow!

Putting Things in Order

We were not on the work schedule so we were in no rush to get up.  On the other hand Marti decided at 5:30 am that it was time to go out.  Guess who got the privilege of taking him out?  Once I was up, unfortunately, I could not get back to sleep.  Oh well, that’s what they make naps for during the day.

This morning was much better temperature wise.  It was in the mid 50’s and the sky was clear.  It was the promise of another great day and that is exactly what it turned out to be.

Breakfast was first on the agenda.  A big stack of peppermint pancakes with sausage.  There was also a cup of juice and a couple of cups of coffee.  Oh so good indeed!

Then we watched a 2 hour Matlock special.  I was bound and determined not to get sucked in but after 15 minutes I was done in.  It just seems to happen that way.  It was a good one and we both enjoyed it.

First order of business was installing my gold-plated piano hinge with two springs on it.

I refuse to divulge the price of this 6 inch piece of hinge but suffice to say it was insane.  Anyway, the bathroom door now works as it should.  I guess that counts for something.

Time now to move outside and begin cleaning up the storage lockers.   It seems when you stay put in one park too long things just seem to get thrown in.  At least with me that’s the way it goes.  That will not work once we get on the road.  Everything needs a place, and a place for everything.  So I went to work cleaning and reorganizing storage lockers.

20190308_170728

These are the three on the starboard side that I finished today.  Port side tomorrow after work.   Can you guess that I’m getting anxious to get going?  You had better believe it!

One other item that needed attention.  They have a crazy system here for the sewer at each site.  Your tanks dump into a sump which contains a pump which in turn then pumps it to a central location and then onto the leech field.  When I went to dump the tanks I’ve learned from experience to always try the gray tank first – why?  Because of exactly what happened again today.  The sump filled but the pump failed to work.  I tried all the tricks first that worked in the past.   Let’s see, breaker off and on, no go.  Reset the ground fault outlet, no go.  Pull the plug and try another outlet, no go.  It appeared I was going to have to dig the pump up and replace it.  But first I decided to try a time-honored fix, hit the cover of the sump which contained the pump real hard.  Bingo!  Got it working.  My guess is that the float was stuck.  Dodged a bullet on that one.

While I was doing all this Barbara was getting our taxes ready for our accountant.  This will be the last year we will need him.  Last year we had a couple of twists and turns in terms of income so we both believed it would be best to have an expert take a look.  Now we sit and wait, will we owe?  Will we get a refund?  Inquiring minds, our minds, want to know and as soon as possible.

Time to call it a day.  After all why do today what you can do tomorrow.  So with the sun

20190308_170854

setting at the far end of the park it was time to go in for supper and our two favorite shows, Jeopardy an Wheel of Fortune.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We managed to accomplish quite a bit without overdoing it!  I like it that way.  The most important thing as always is that we enjoyed the day together.  Two peas in a pod, that’s us.  When will people ever learn it’s not the toys we accumulate that are important rather it’s the relationships we form that are priceless.

Thanks again for joining us on our journey.  Hope you day was a great one as well.  We’ll see you again tomorrow when we get into who knows what!  It’s a work day that is the only thing we know for sure.  So it will be up and out early morning.  Bye for now.

Another Beautiful Day

We awoke this morning to a cold but beautiful day with crystal clear skies.  The

Morning has broken 2

temperature was 38 degrees outside but inside we were warm and toasty.  Last night I decided to run the furnace since I hadn’t done so in quite some time.  No time like the present to make sure it is working.  It worked like a charm.  It doesn’t provide quite the heat that the heat pump does but it is effective enough to get the job done.

Today was another work day so it was up and out the door.  We layered up with sweat shirts, jackets and gloves.  It was my turn to police the main nature trail so off I went.

This is one of the first signs you see along the trail.

And the ferns themselves.

There are benches along the way if one wishes to sit and rest or read or whatever.

A sign that tells the benefits of a controlled burn.

And a sign that reminds one and all of who really lives here.  Unfortunately I didn’t see one today.

Turtle Sign

That was work this morning.  Oh yes, I did get to cut the grass around Graybeard.  It was getting high enough to hide the tires – not really but you get the idea.

As for Barbara she spent the morning in the entrance booth since there was a class being held in the Lodge today and people were coming in by the one’s and two’s .

After work we both took showers and napped for a couple of hours.  Then late afternoon it was over to Steve and Patti’s rig to play Mexican Train.  We played outside at the picnic table as along as we could before the cold and the bugs put an end to the game for the evening.  We’ll hopefully finish the game tomorrow afternoon.

That was our day on The Road of Retirement.  We again enjoyed it from beginning to end.  Thanks for coming along with us and we’ll see you again tomorrow.
