October 11th, Thursday – Marti’s Turn for the Doctor; Appointment for Satellite Install

Oh wow I actually slept through the night for the first time in several weeks.  When I woke up and looked at the clock and it said 7:30 am I was in disbelief.  Hopefully, there are many more nights like this ahead.  I’d be happy even if I slept to 5:30 am each day.

Well today it was Marti’s turn to go to the doctor.  The poor little man has been having some rough days and nights.  Constantly chewing at himself to the point he had himself raw in two places.  No more time to wait he needed a Veterinary Doctor .  Thankfully, the

camp manager here who has been in this area for the last three years knew just who to go to.  She recommended Jumper Creek Veterinary Clinic here in BushnellMarti’s doctor was Doctor Yates and I can’t say enough good things about him.  He examined Marti from one end to the other and among other things found two fleas and a skin infection.  He also cleaned up his eyes and trimmed his toenails.  Bottom line, Marti is now taking almost as many pills as I am each day!  He should be as good as new within several days.

Today we made an appointment for next Monday for the start of our satellite install.  We’ll get together with the installer who did some minor work for us last year, figure out

the bits and pieces we’re going to need and discuss how to integrate everything into the current distribution box.  We’re going to make it a bit interesting in that along with everything else we want the ability to tape various shows while we are watching others live.  With any luck we’ll have it up and running no later than mid November.  Just in time for the Hallmark Christmas shows.  Barbara is so looking forward to this.

I almost did it today.  I’ve been dying to get into the box with the awnings in it and I figured today would be the day.  Nope.  Taking Marti to the Vet sort of took up the

afternoon.  Furthermore, the drivers side right now is in direct sunlight all afternoon.  With the temperatures in the 90’s I don’t believe it would be much fun.  So I’ll wait until we move to the other 50 amp site which is in full shade all day.  Then, oh yea, then I’m going to rip into that box and do the install.  By the way the picture above shows the color we chose.

Knowing that Marti had some fleas when we returned home we immediately stripped our bed, sheets, blankets, pillow cases, etc. and took them to the Wishy Washy.  We’ll

spray the rest of Graybeard tomorrow with a product we used in the past in our bricks and sticks home.  It did the trick them so it should work here as well.  Better safe than sorry.

That then was our day.  Thanks once again for joining us on The Road of Retirement.  We had a great day from start to finish.  We are always amazed at how blessed we have been.  Yes, we’ve hit a few potholes along the way, but the good sure overshadows the bad.  What does the future hold?  Don’t know for sure but we do know who will be there for us, namely the God of our faith.  So we will move forward eagerly expecting even more great adventures and good things to come.  I’ll say goodnight for now but as always before leaving a thought for each of us to ponder:

As always,  if you are coming to the end of your day with concerns and worries, let me suggest that you turn them over to God.  After all, He is going to be up all night so why not let him handle them for you.

Time now for our evening prayers and eventually some shut-eye.  Till tomorrow.

October 10th, Wednesday – No Storm for Us; An Odds and End Day; Grateful

This morning when we woke the weather forecast was for heavy rains mid day and

winds between 15 and 25 mph.  Guess what?  Nothing ever developed.  Oh, we had some rain, two spats of about 20 minutes each and a bit of wind from time to time but nothing more.  Now how about that!  No complaints from either of us.

This morning it was back to the chiropractor for me.  I’m so much better and I want to keep it that way so we decided to find someone here that I can go to on a regular basis.

Barbara will probably start going on a regular basis as well.  After all, we’re going to be in this area for the next 6 months.  Of course this is just the start, we both have other doctors we need to visit while we’re here.   We have to get done as much as possible before we leave the area and begin traveling the country again next year.

We also did some more shopping today.  A little bit of this and a little bit of that.  Nothing major but things we were out of.  Given what we expected weather wise we thought it wise to stay around Graybeard today.  If we had only known that the forecast would be wrong.

I finished up some more projects, little ones here and there.  Checked all the lockers and closets for any sign of water.  We’re good.  Cleaned the bathroom and waxed the shower.

Got out the vacuum since we’ve been for some reason tracking in a lot of dirt lately.  We’ll move in a couple of days to another site that has a concrete patio so that should help keep the dirt at bay.  The new site also has 50 amp service.  Currently we have 30 amp service and we need to do a bit of juggling  electricity wise to keep the AC on.  We would love to leave the AC off but it has been so muggy these last couple of days and the forecast is for temperatures in the 90’s beginning I believe this Friday.

So that was our day.  Not really exciting but then again they can’t all be a whirlwind of activity.  I’m finally getting back to planning for next year, the big question is Should we

do the Midwest or go out West?  Time will tell.  Some changes have already been made.  Let’s see how things shake out over the next couple of weeks.

Time to go but before I do just a reminder to keep all those impacted by this major hurricane in our thoughts and prayers.  This was as we all know the worst one in a real long time.  It is going to take some people years to recover – if they ever do.  We thank the good Lord that we were able to get out of harms way and ended up with no issues.

So, thanks once again for joining us on The Road of Retirement as we traveled along together, hand in hand, singing our song.  We hope you had a good day, that you were able to enjoy the day to the fullest.  Now before I go a thought for all of us to ponder:

October 9th, Tuesday – First Rule of Full Time RV Life, Be Flexible; Time for Serious Maintenance

First Rule of Full Time RV Life, Be Flexible.  Meaning, our plans have changed again.  We were supposed to leave here this Saturday, October 13th.  However, the state park we

were headed to is closed until further notice.  Therefore, we have made plans to remain here until we take Graybeard to Alliance Coach for long overdue maintenance.

Which brings me to what’s coming next.  On October 21st we move to the Alliance Coach campground in Wildwood.  Yes, they have their own campground for customers with RV’s in for service.  While there we are going to have some long overdue

maintenance done on the cooling system, the brakes, the transmission and the front slide.  All of these systems have not been touched since Graybeard was new.  Sort of interesting when I mentioned what was going on with the front slide the service manager just smiled and said I know exactly what is going on and what is causing it.  He explained to me that Winnebago/Itasca had an issue with their slides between 2005 and 2009.  Something to do with the nylon glides and other assorted items that allows the slide to move in and out smoothly.    We’ll have a new coach by the time we’re done!

Today we received some new toys.  Well, not exactly.  We received new camp chairs with lumbar support.  The chairs we have currently provide no support and our backs always ache when we get out of them.  Given the current state of our backs we decided we needed something better.  So to the internet we when and we came up with the

Stongback camp chair with lumbar support.  They have received five stars on every review site so they were the ones we chose.  Time will tell if they live up to their billing.  We hope so.

We also did some shopping today.  After all we know where all the stores are around here so why not.  W still have to get to Aldi for some serious grocery shopping but that will have to wait until the rain and wind coming the next couple of days.  No problem with us.

That then was our day.  A great one all the way around in so many ways.  We accomplished some things that needed to be done, we got out and about for a bit, and we did it the way we like, together hand in hand.  Thanks for joining us and coming along with us.  We’re going to call it a night now but before we go something for all of us to ponder:

October 8th, Monday – Home Is Where We Park It, Sumter Oaks, Bushnell, FL; Out of Harms Way, Feeling Good About That

So this morning it was time to go.  Those in the campground still looked at me as if I had two heads.  As far as they were concerned storms come and go and this was no different.  It will just pass through they sort of said and all well be OK.  Really?  So guess what we found out later in the day?  The campground was closed and evacuated.  Guess we made the right call after all.  We beat everyone out of Dodge!

The trip to our new home was an easy one, only three hours including a stop for fuel.  No real traffic to speak of.  Only one brief downpour just before we got in the vicinity of Ocala which lasted about fifteen minutes.  Overall, a quick and easy hop from point A to point B.

So as always Home Is Where We Park It and home right now is a familiar place for us, an Escapees Park called Sumter Oaks in Bushnell Florida.  It’s like a ghost town right now

since the snowbirds don’t start arriving until November.  Then it will be every site taken with all manner of rig’s.   We have a pull through site, grass, sort of level, utilities are convenient to the utility bay, but no cable nor WiFi and only limited OTA channels.  Most important we’re not surrounded and overwhelmed by old trees.  We’ll be here for the next five days.  After that we’ll go back north a bit to Rainbow Springs State Park.

Yes, we will feel some of the effects of the Hurricane, namely some breezy days and a bit of rain.  We could have escaped that all together if we had gone further east but we feel comfortable here.  The main thing is we are out of harm’s way, we don’t have to worry about the Hurricane and forty plus mph winds and torrential downpours.   It’s a win-win of you ask me.

So we’ll hunker down for the next five days.  Play some Mexican Train.  Do some route planning for next year.  Finish up a few indoor projects.  We’ll run up to Alliance Coach and schedule a time for some chassis maintenance work that needs to be done.  We may even go ahead with the install of our satellite system.    There is also the awnings that need to be installed but given the weather they will probably have to wait another week.  We can always find things to do.

Bottom line, we are out of harm’s way and feeling good about that.  Thanks once again for joining us on The Road to Retirement.  It was a good day for us, a day when we truly felt God watching over us. We don’t know where we would be without Him holding us in the palm of His Hand.  Until for some reason we absolutely can’t we will continue to travel along, hand in hand, singing our song.  Now, a thought for each of us to ponder:
